    My set up:
    HP omen x17
    i7 7820HK
    gtx 1080
    32gb ram
i have beamng drive installed on my main drive 'ssd' and i can play any game on max settings and have amazing fps, unless it comes to beamng drive, i get around 29 fps when the car is stationary and when i move it shoots up to 57-60 and fluctuates allot between 20 and 60 and its literally unplayable.
    all my drivers are up to date, fresh latest win10 update{1 week old laptop it was sitting in a box for 2 years}
    no thermal throttling.
i tried allot of things and different settings and guides online to fix this but nothing helped.
note my display is 4k butt no matter what display resolution i set the game too it doesn't effect fps/

Your CPU is on the weak side for a game like BeamNG.

You're running a laptop with a mobile 1080 (worse performance than a regular PCI-e card) as well. But even if you didn't, you have a quad-core CPU that clocks at 2.9GHz, and that would bottleneck any system trying to run the game, even if you had a 3080.

Most games do not have an underlying deep physics simulation running, and for those, your laptop is more than capable.

Your best bet is going to be lowering graphics settings and resolution, as well as playing with a minimum amount of spawned vehicles (less than 3 if you can manage)

Even if i put on the lowest graphics, the fps stays the same, and my cpu reaches uo to 3.9 clocks with the overclock software on it, funmy is my older laptop with (i7 7700hq and gtx 1050ti and 16gb ram) ran it with mid to high settings at 60 fps locked, so how is a better machine performing this bad, and its stutter what annoys me the most..

    It's your CPU.

See for yourself, here's the CPU you currently have; https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=intel+core+i7-7820hk+@+2.90ghz&id=2938

And here's the one you used to have; https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-7700HQ+@+2.80GHz&id=2906

    (Note the physics frame times)

Your I7-7700HQ was a better physics calculation chip than your current CPU. So your old system was probably better at CPU-heavy games like Beam (even though a 1050ti is no slouch), while your new setup is focused towards GPU-heavy games.

For your specific scenario the only solution is a hardware upgrade, especially since it's a laptop and not as easily modified. Also check your Windows power management settings, to make sure you have it set to "High-Performance", as well as the game process priority set to high in Task Manager while the game is running.

Thank you for the fast replies, i hope the game gets better optimization, because i can't afford getting a better setup for the next 2 years, its still weird that no matter what settings, the fps has the same problem, and yes i have the power management on "high performance mode" and i do give beamng drive high priority

Maybe you're thermal throttling? try putting it back on the stock clock.

Because you get so low fps when car is stationary, but then FPS shoots up, I would think there being something that lowers your GPU or CPU clock when you don't have inputs or some other weirdness in that nature.

Does fps shoot up also when you keep handbrake (spacebar down) or keep honking the horn of the car?

Sometimes laptops comes with manufacturers performance optimizers that can dynamically adjust performance without really doing much good. Thin fashion has also made thermal throttling a thing which was mentioned, but it would certainly happen also when car is moving as when car is stationary, there is bit less load from collision system or at least traditionally was.

It is difficult say what actually is causing the issue, but you can try software like HWinfo64 (https://www.hwinfo.com/download/ run sensors only and set update rate to 200ms or so) which might show you bit more information about which cores of CPU are loaded and how much GPU load there is, which should reveal if there is some odd limiter happening.

Also Process Explorer (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer) is good tool to examine if some other software starts using your CPU when you are not driving the car (touching keys/controller).

There is also 30fps limit in game, when game window is no in focus, but I doubt turning it off will help, however when there is no idea what is causing something, best way to hack is to keep poking one thing at the time, observe if there is any effect and then turn thing back to original setting and try next one, until all options are exhausted.

While your current CPU is certainly a downgrade over your old one in some regards, I'm not too convinced that is reason for this behavior, it is way too much change and completely wrong way around, there should be slower fps while moving, not when standing still, so I think there might be possibility of this being software induced issue of some kind (setting or some other software/antivirus/malware).

That is pretty much all I can offer, but pretty much any issue can be solved with working methodically and in logical manner, it just is quite boring and can take lot of time to test everything that might affect this.

The i7 may be a weak cpu but still capable of 60fps..
    It's probably HP being HP...

im not buying "this cpu is causing this"

i have had this game running stable at 45fps with an i5 3330 (4c4t 3ghz) and a gtx 650ti and that had no problems

i would check out the thermal paste situation as it could be nasty cheap crusty stuff causing it to overheat. i would also try playing with your charger plugged in.

but a 7th gen mobile i7 is more than capable of running this game end of discussion. i mean, with a 1080 as well... i would tone down you oc software as well see if that helps :)

Yes, with single car and reasonable settings almost any potato can run this game these days, also as his FPS is 29 solid when car is not moving and when car moves he gets higher FPS it really sounds like there is some performance management thing making mess here, that would be HP being HP definitely, but let's hope OP can find out more about it and posts back, it is always a shame if person can't enjoy great game to it's fullest potential.

I'm getting a lenovo ThinkPad t470p this year,
It's got an i7 7820HQ, 16 gigs of ram and a 940mx 2gig, will see how the game will perform on that... Will be a while though.. might get it on August or something..

So i fixed it after trying allot of different things, repasting, clean beamng install, no mods, safe mode, running at 720p, removing overclock. Nothing helped, BUT when i set the shadows to partial ( not none or all) just partial the fps is stable between 75 and 80 fps, which is weird, because i don't get that "none" shadows still gives me problems... Thank you for all the help♥️♥️
