Sure, AI is fun, but low quality mods from pirate websites aren't. Please don't post videos with them on here. At least that's my opinion.

100% agree, also there is already a section to post videos. We don't need a new thread for every BeamNG video.

Is there anywhere you can get new cars from that are ok to use apart from here? I like cars from 05+ and most here are 80s stuff (meh).

I suppose I could make my own car but I ain't got the skill (or time) for that.

Strictly speaking, many of the mods in question aren't illegal. When a BeamNG forum user refers to an "illegal" or "russian" mod, they are referring to mods that:

• Use models taken from other games or online repositories (most often without permission; if ownership is claimed, the resulting mod is declared plagiarism, thus illegal),
• bind the models to an unaltered physics skeletons of the game's default vehicles (resulting in poor performance and crash representation and seldom crediting the creator), and/or
• are uploaded to sites other than BeamNG, especially ones associated with pirating games (or mods, in some cases).

There are exceptions; several users on the BeamNG forums have ported vehicles over from other games and have been met with fanfare. But these are always credited to the responsible party, have matching physics skeletons, and if a copyright claim is filed, are taken down promptly and without complaint.

"Those" mods arent specifically banned from youtube videos or screenshots here contrary to what the guys above like to think, but they do carry stigma. Chances are you're download link for them came from a site with "mods" and .ru in its url. Basically those mods a guy who is stereotyped as being russian (because the site is) steals a model from a game like forza or grand theft auto, slaps it on the jbeam (which is used for physics calculations) for the gavril grand marshal, completely ignores crediting the mesh author or gabester and uploads it as their own work. As you may have noticed, they don't deform well (mesh and jbeam dont line up), really arent great quality and you are basically driving around grand marshals.

Video game ripped mods are technically allowed here and there are now some GTA ones in the link above, but the ones here have the source credited and so far have proper fitted jbeams. Most of the mods in that section are either scratch works for BeamNG or used with permission, all are credited.

^Those are all cool, and if they arent they end up locked or thread deleted entirely.
The ones from the russian site aren't (although 1 guy that has made some mods here does release his himself on a russian site, thats cool, they are "converts" but they are credited and decent quality).

Something skipped over before. That russian site also reuploads mods stolen from here without permission.

 

Besides, pretty much all of the Russian/illegal mods aren't done very well at all. They usually have unrealistic behavior and deformation because they're just slapped over a jbeam from one of Gabester's vehicles.
