Do you need controller or keyboard?

I've not actually bought the game yet, but I only got one question: how does it work without a wheel or controller? I play other games on keyboard, and I'm ok at those but because BeamNG is so realistic should I consider getting a controller (only plug in controllers please)? Let me know what you think

 

controllers are definitely step-ups from keyboards
they don't feel perfectly realistic, but you have much more precise controls with a controller
playing with a keyboard can still deliver a fun experience, though
