Simple question, can a GIF be assigned as a texture in order to have something animate?

I don’t think so no. But you can have multiple frames as separate photo files and write a script to switch between them all

Is there a max image size limit that beamng will accept? lining up all the frames for the image sequence makes it a bit big beeg.png

Basically how the Brake Glow mod works, except it is attached to the temperature of the brakes with a script.

Unrelated question, but can this be done to a 3D model? Like imagine you want to add an animation of a human walking to the walking mode for example (no I don't want to do it, it's just an example), would it be possible to write a script that cycles through models to make a frame by frame animation? I'm really curious because I haven't ever seen a mod do this but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.

I believe so, I remember seeing a video posted to community screenshots a while ago of an animated prop ingame of a few people fighting. I have no idea how this works or would be done though

That was part of a map, which can have animated textures, I'm talking about a model which can't have it the traditional way because the game will crash if you try. I'm asking if it can be done manually with LUA.

Definitely possible, if you have a lot of time on your hands basically anything is possible :) There has been a post of someone who showed an airplane animation a while ago, made with a Blender animation (!)

The Bell 407 chopper has lua controlled motion blur effects on its rotors too. The lua in this case applies too materials.switches :)

Oh and by the way :

Yes this can be done too. As videos work on textures so do gifs too. I have done this experiment before.

Really? So how would I do that? Is it just like selecting an image but with a gif?

No, it's more like using the ETK center screen for example. They are html textures. You can replace them by gifs in the html file of the screen :)
