Even modern rally cars use torque vectoring which is kinda ESC, I guess?

There is more and more electronic in cars, independent of power source.

Which is why it is important to have a high speed charger network on major long range traffic routes.

With ranges in excess of 400km and a realistic capability to get another 300 km in 20 something minutes, it looks like people dont care that much anymore. Which makes sense..... even if you dont need a break yourself after 400 km, the "wasted" time in longer charging compared to refuelling is relative minor... and you may end up saving lifetime in fact because in the midterm, most EV will be charged at home most of the time.

Yeah.. let me loose 30 minutes on my once a year 700 km trip..... in the meantime I never will have to visit a station ever again in the rest of the year. Less time wasted for the vast majority of people.

The oil industry is still worth hundreds of billions dollars. Do you really think they would neglect the chance of damaging the electrification of the car industry if they saw any way?

The conditions in this video are easily repeatable. All you need is a flight to a similar cold location or even just a large powerful cooling room.

None of those requirements pose the slightest bit of problem for any larger business.

So I wonder... why dont they trash Tesla/EVs in general for their lack of winter capability? Why not let a few Teslas turn to ice and run ads up and down the country how much it sucks under such conditions?

Maybe because they fear the result of a fair test. And want to avoid getting a public execution by making claims that could be debunked within a week.

You say the guy is lying. Fine, it is not impossible. Just rather unlikely because again, such conditions can be replicated at will with enough money and since there is an absurd amount of money hell bent on keeping big oil alive..... one does seriously wonder why they would not take such an opportunity to stay in business.

It would be incredible easy to refute the claims made in the video. For little more than pocket change for even a small size oil company.

Where are those tests? Where are those videos? Where are the newspaper articles slamming EVs into the ground for freezing in winter? Where are all the smiling oil CEOs telling you "told you so".

Why they dont do it? If it would be so easy and such a low hanging fruit to have?

Because it isnt. And the long term tendencies are nothing but an nightmare for big oil and gas.

There is an enormous amount of hydrogen and e-fuels advertisements in germany..... why is someone burning so much money to advertise an technology that will need at least another decade to mature? It isnt the resarch institutes, those lack the financial firepower to do so and also tend to be science driven more than money driven in the first place.

    The anwer is simple.... fear.

    Fear of this:

When batteries win the race..... efuels and hydrogen will be very very very dead in cars. And so will the companies relying on ICE car sales to stay in business.

    Correct.

Yet they only need arround 1/3 of the capacity due to their prime mover not wasting 2/3 of the potential energy as mostly useless heat.

German car industry is very export oriented..... and an increasing percentage of that export market is banning ICE cars in the next few decades.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-out_of_fossil_fuel_vehicles

That number of countries and markets is going up... not down.

It is actually brutally simple...... a car manufacturer will either jump on the EV train in time..... or he will cease to exist within 15 years.

Competing technologies to the battery are already falling behind.... and with most of the market focusing on those (and resulting billions sunk in R&D).... this race.... is going to be decided very soon.

Yet we are all human and all make occasional mistakes. Noone sane ever entered a car with the idea of "I am going to crash into this now)

Yes, you should not leave your lane. But people at times dont pay attention. Why do you think

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumble_strip

this exists? Because it notable reduced the amount of such accidents.

Big electric isnt doing to well here.... something along the lines of sleeping through changing times and now getting a rude awakening.

Have you checked what the price estimate of e-fuels is? I assume you dont... because you can go arround 400 km with an battery EV for the same cost as 100 km of e-fuels.

    Teslas stock price disagrees.

Batteries usually outlast expectations very significantly and are going to be cheaper to replace than ICE related wear, tear and maintainance for a similar amount of km driven.

EV burn less than ICE cars according to current statistics. A trend that likely will continue even with EV getting older.

It is called Internal Combustion Engine for a reason. It burns stuff and a a result gets very very hot with exhaust parts capable of reaching 4 digit numbers under sustained load. Yet, fuel is and never can be too far away from those heat sources.

Modern ICE cars are safer than ever.... yet you hear about a car burning arround every two weeks in traffic radio. It just happens..... sometimes enough things go frist wrong and then hot.....

Any power storage capable of propelling at least a metric ton of metal for hundreds of km is inherently dangerous. It simple is a very significant amount of energy.

Fact: Mandatory ESC has reduced both number and severity of accidents. That is because the amount of times where it saves the day are much larger than the amount of times where it ruins it.

The computer is a million time faster than any human could ever hope to be and can actually control all 4 wheels individually.

It will avoid much more out of control crashes than most humans.

Keep in mind that most production cars are tuned into understeering by design because

    - the average driver is more likely to notice that one is approaching the limits
    - understeer tends to cause frontal overlap crashes if there is oncoming traffic. While certainly not something to enjoy, it is almost certainly more healthy than a sideway crash into a pillar or tree. Most crumble zone available, most protection systems work best.

    It works on similar principles.

Neutral steer tend to avoid accidents by making cornering performance the best. An avoided crash is certainly more healthy than a frontal overlap crash. Both understeer and oversteer are dangerous. ESC induce understeer to fight oversteer is good, induce understeer to ruin neutral steer is bad.

I'm not anti-ESC, I'm just saying that some ESC, as explained on some posts above, are worse than non-ESC.
According to Consumer Reports, Tesla is the second least reliable car manufacturer in the US.
Because gov't will ban them, like they ban "misinformation" said by whistleblowers.
Now the fuel efficiency in ICEV has improved significantly, and exhaust emissions are already reduced drastically. Do they satisfied? No, they want to ban ICEV all together. You cannot comply your way out of tyranny.
Ban this ban that, nanny state, police state, is that a future you want?
The flame on ICEV self-ignition are dark red cloudy shape, on EV, the flame are bright orange spray-ish shape. Also the latter is much harder to extinguish than the former because lithium can react with oxygen and carbon dioxide.

ESC is NOT torque vectoring, the working principle is entirely different. Also rally cars use mechanical differentials IIRC.

ESC has only reduced the number and severity of crashes because the number of crashes have gone up significantly. This is often caused by distracted driving. If phones didn't work while in motion I'm sure that the number of crashes would drop way more than a system to remove control from the driver can.

The truth is, ESC works great for people who don't know how to control a car or are too busy with other things to bother controlling the car. The whole point of ESC is to take away said control, so it only benefits those who didn't have any in the first place. Like most things nowadays, the solution is to fix the driver, not the car.

It so is. Only thing is that it isn't constantly on in a rally car. And no they don't use mechanical differentials. How tf would mechanical ESC work?

Well, torque vectoring requires both appropriate electronics and mechanics, since ESC does not require mechanical LSD but torque vectoring requires sensors that can be used in ESC, thus you cannot find a car with torque vectoring without ESC.
IIRC, the S-AWC is replaced with mechanical LSDs on rally/race version of Lancer Evolution, because of competitiveness. I could be wrong.
Also in the rally version of Cherrier FCV, both the front and the rear diff are mechanical LSD. The center clutch in the transfer case is simply 40% preload engagement with throttle off, full engagement with throttle on, and disconnect the rear axle with handbrake. If this clutchex transfer case is considered torque vectoring, then Subaru ACT-4 can also be considered "torque vectoring".

@ARES IV when you believe the electric car wont at one point be taxed as well your living in a dream world its already starting to happen in the US. Another thing depending on the time you charge your EV the amount of money you have to pay per kwh already exceeds the money you pay for a liter of petrol here in germany

Also how good the middle East is for cars. Oil flows like water, and you have never ending supply of solar power(nevermind the dust storms.)

Just changed all 8 spark plugs in my Crown Vic. They looked to be original with 15 years old and 119k miles. The coil boots were all stuck and dirty in the plug wells. Except for the cylinder where spark plug was becoming loose and leaking combustion gas into the well...
Runs good on test drive not much noticeable change.

My plug wires were replaced at some point, but the plugs themselves were original. Replaced them when I did the headgaskets at 96k miles.

Yeah they weren't causing any problems yet just worn out. One plug well and coil was contaminated by coolant leaking into it at some point.
100k miles is the spark plug interval specified by Ford in the owners manual. OE are platinum.

    Now these are old
    IMG202108020250061.jpg IMG202108020251041.jpg
These are plugs 1 and 3. Funnily enough changing the leads made the biggest difference, which were the same age. Also my timing belt is 20 years and nearly 200k kays over due, and the water pump is leaking terribly, oh so are the rocker cover and timing cover gaskets. I wonder how old the fuel filter is ?

Yeah those look pretty bad. I've learned to first address all manufacturer recommended maintenance items for a base line while straightening a car out. Yours sounds pretty far gone though...

well next week im getting everything that even seems suspect (like the wobbly mounts) fixed, something the last owner should have done over the past 20 years
    --- Post updated ---
Also forgot to put the cap on the radiator reservoir when i topped it up yesterday, when i was on my lunch break i popped the bonnet to see if i could pin down the weird burning smell that was occurring a quarters way to work this morning and also have the oil topped up (because it needs daily oil top ups) and lo and behold the radiator was very empty, good thing it was only 2 degrees or i probably wouldn't have made it to work. Before you ask the only gauges that work properly is the speedo and most of the time the tacho, fuel and temp dont really move at all, until either the engines cooked or you've run out of fuel. Dont ya just love old cars...
