a 2 door and 4 door frame are essentially the same frame. The wagon frame is slightly different in the rear, but all would weigh close to the same. the real weight differences from 2 to 4 door are the extra doors(obviously) and the pillars that support them(along with a little added sheetmetal). Like i mentioned, believe it or not a lot of weight comes from the roof of the wagons. The sheetmetal is thicker and layered differently to provide extra support during a rollover. You also have cargo areas, flip up seats, etc for wagons...i'll see if i cant find you a curbweight of a 74 gm wagon real quick.

According to wikipedia(use your own judgement) a buick estate wagon's curbweight is 5,100–5,400 lbs. I know a fullsize buick of the same year outweighs a fullsize impala, so the more "luxurious" buick probably has a little added weight. I also know for derby purposes, they are generally more sought after because of how the rears are set up(most came with stock towing packages with heavier springs, "hump plates", and a few extra suspension options.

Either way you are doing a great job, can't wait to play with the finished product :D

    Thanks!:)

Sure. Did some crashtesting. It looks like the chassis takes all the beating.
The left side of the car was not yet finished (I intend to make one side as good as possible, then copy it), it was not yet perfect. Made some screenshots, a bit to many to put them here, so they can be found at:
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3kp77olw4jbtqes/AAALAQ4aTwwB3OHX8XoFs8K4a

    - frontal collision with a wall at 75-80 MPH
    - rear collision with a wall at 45 MPH
    - frontal offset collission at 45 MPH
    - dropped another Moonhawk (coupe) on it from around 5m (two times)
-T-boned it with another Moonhawk (coupe) at around 60MPH

I added one row of nodes in the floor, one in the roof. Each b-pillar consists of 3 layers, each having two nodes (like the GM). Disabled two nodes at each rear quarterpanel and moved many nodes and beams around. The front and rear doors are a slightly modded copy of the original.

    ---

And made a rollcage for the coupe. Took the hatch one and modified it. I think the addons look great :) Maybe some sidepipes will be great as well.

WOW. this mod is looking amazing!

also, A worklog could be a nice thing to post(what you have done and how much is left) because it gives people a reference to how much time this mod has had, and needs

Totally diggin' the cop cars and the coupe street mods. They do total justice to this car. Removing the hideous bumpers alone is good but what you're doing here looks really nice and completely believable. Thanks for the
crash test pics. I have been annoyed since day one with how the Moonhawk roof responds to t-bone collisions.

Re: Bruckell Moonhawk Sedan & Station wagon

Generally, especially on cars that just have subframes, which means they don't run the full length of the car, they are the same for coupes, sedans, and wagons. The only difference with full frame cars is that they run the full length of the car so that they are longer. The strength rarely changes with same model, different body style. I hope this makes sense.

That being said, a derby version with a beefed up frame would leave me tickled pink.

I intend to include hump plates (thanks to monster), and shut welded doors.

Also a rollcage for the sedan and station, and front and rear pushbars. But I don't know if they are allowed in a derby :p

Edit; and maybe extensions of the rollcage to the suspension hardpoints. But I'm not sure if that's causes a large effect on a body-on-frame car.

When I go to demo derbies at my county fair I see different classes including vans, pickups, sedans, small sedans and hatch backs, sometimes you would see a bel air in them. I think there should be a demolition derby station wagon

Push bars, no, but don't forget to weld those bumpers on, and maybe beef them up a little too. You're my freaking hero. Just wanted you to know that

Re: Bruckell Moonhawk Sedan & Station wagon

Got a bit further on the station mesh, the rear end of a roundback is really difficult to recreate. Also made the mesh for the sidepipes, it looks better than expected. Tried to make a racing slicks version of the slotted mags (thickened the tires, changed the texture of the thread and sidewalls) but I'm afraid changing the jbeam tire values is, like the suspension values, a little too difficult for me to get right atm.

Should be studying for my resits, this is way too much fun :p

You know that Nomad was from the late 50's right? I'm trying to make a blend between a GM roundback (Chevy Caprice 1977) and a 1977 Dodge Coronet, with some 1977 Malibu Wagon looking parts (e.g. tailights are in rear bumper)

A shooting brake could be possible, but not in the near future.

Oh and as long as you're welding body seams together, you might as well weld the trunk and hood on too :)

... and something like this as exhaust? ;)

I'm not sure if I add nodes to the rollcage, or if I just add and strengthen existing beams, like in the hatch.

You're getting there. I prefer the ones that come out at a 45 degree angle pointed right at the crowd in the grandstands, but that's looking good man. Haha, pretty soon you'll have to start learning how to canoe the trunk, but I like what you're doing. You're satisfying so many wants of mine. Keep up the great work. You could always do a really simple roll bar.

See the stacks and the roll bar that connects directly to the frame and angles out the window, over the roof.

Also, can possibly get custom sounds for the idle and Rev of the derby versions of you're interested

I've got a few sound files, hehe

You're doing a fantastic job on this. I haven't been this exited for Beamng since it came out. I do have one request on the coupe... a late 70's style Winston Cup car. I attached a couple of pics. I'd even consider getting back into skin creation like in the Nascar Racing series days.
