    Origanal model: Flatout (one) -Bugbear

Well, I'm converting/editing a car from a game called flatout.

The car wheels and windshield have been remodeled by me.

Now I'm working on the Jbeam process.

    PICS:

Yeah I know the render is ugly..

    blockhead_done.jpg

And I'm trying to use the BNEditor, but it imports incorrectly.

and the RTVE program doesn't even open, it just crashes at startup.

the geometery looks weird, like faces are facing the wrong way maybe? or just no smoothing? Looks choppy, how do you go about fixing that?

    I actually don't know myself, (because it's a conversion)

That's why I posted here, because I need a little bit of help.

There's no smoothing because drowsysam said not to do so.

Yes, but I don't know how to do so, because I can't use TurboSmooth or Smoothing modifiers. (DrowsySam said not to use them)

In this case they mean smoothing as in the edge-split modifier. Edge split defines whether to attempt to render 2 faces with a shared edge as smooth or whether it will try and render a solid edge in place, without it you tend to get some very weird shading issues.

TurboSmooth tries to actually add polies to the model, way way too many and often in the wrong place.

Once you see the back you'll think it'll look more like a rally car.

Oh ok If there is a reason for no smoothing it is probably important especially if DrowsySam said not to Also for the fact DrowsySam knows what he's doing he is a pro modder and a part of the team

Turbosmooth or smoothing modifier tend to modify the mesh by adding polies, which is not suitable for BeamNG.
What you need is to set faces to smooth shading (which isn't a modifier, and therefore won't change the mesh, except the way it's shaded.)

Oh too many polies does that cause the game to crash or just extreme lag

Lag (GPU side) and also gives the games problems with deforming the mesh as the JBeam deforms. Plus you plain dont need them.

Oh so its best to have minimum possible polies or other wise you will get 0.0000000000000000000000000001 fps ;)

Ok thanks guys! I'm glad the (most) of the votes were positive.

Thanks for all the input, I'll try the new shading and other things to make the quality of this mod as good as possible.

Well DrowsySam hates my car so I give up.

    ...maybe..

I just need help with shading, (it's not working) Then ya'll see the beautifulness of my car! :p
