Yeh absolutely, how much do custom plates cost in the states? I know they're pretty extortionate in the UK.
I once came across a very british car in a very british place. (middle of london opposite downing street)
we pay once off. $48 annually for the rest of your life is probably cheaper than getting a custom plate in the UK
There's a red mercedes slr in my town. It has a personalized license plate and it's just the letter "R". Probably stands for rich, dude owns a ford gt, aston martin dbs, some big mercedes saloon, the weird cadillac that had the detuned corvette engine, and a cadillac escalade.
My dad's best friend is well off, he has many nice cars in his collection: Ferrari Dino, Jaguar E-Type, two Aston Martins, an old BMW once owned by Bob Dylan and also a BMW Z8 (he was once pulled over by four cop cars, they made him get out with his hands up in the air; they just wanted to check out the car lol!!). His daily driver is a brand new M5. He likes his cars. I don't see him often (once, twice a year) so next time I'm there I'll bring my camera and shoot some photos and maybe even record a video or two.
I saw an RUF CTR Yellow Bird today, never thought I would see one in person. I saw it at a Porsche parts and restoration shop today wile I was picking up some parts for a customers 944. I recognized the car from pictures I've seen and video games I've played, but I thought it was a replica or something. While paying at the counter I asked the guy if that yellow 911 out front was a genuine RUF yellow bird, and he said "hell yea" and offered to show me the car. I was pretty exited at this point . He showed me around the car and pointed out some of the features and paper work that make this car legit (of course I know little about these cars so most of it went right over my head). Apparently this car wasn't one of the like 30 or so that were make by RUF but a conversion kit made by RUF that the customer would be responsible for installing. It was a cool (and I think rare) car. The shop this car is at is right by my house, so if I see the car tomorrow I will be sure to bring a camera and take some pictures (too poor for a smart phone, otherwise I would have taken pictures today ). Apparently the car is supposed to be picked up tomorrow, so hopefully I can catch it before it leaves. The shop also had at least a dozen other cool Porsche's and a few other cool cars (including a very nice red 1986 Pontiac Trans AM ). Neat place, I've known the owner of the shop for a wile since he lives just a short distance down my street and loves/owns several muscle cars, but I've never been inside his shop until today. I will DEFIANTLY be going back .
