I should point out that this is an MX73 [84-88], whereas Mythbuster is making a JZX81 (same basic chassis as an MX83, 88/89-93), therefore this particular car would not be that helpful as they are quite different. You're probably better off searching for MX83, JZX81 or GX81 as opposed to Cressida or Chaser to avoid this from happening.
Eh I had a feeling it wasn't exactly the same just seen that on fb and it caught my attention Beep Beep, Tapatalk coming through..
You should set up a donation for the cars you make, I would definitely donate! In fact I think many of the seasoned modelers here should set up a donation, I think the community would donate for the cause. Especially if a modeler is making a car everyone wants in game, they could state: if I get x amount of donation I'll complete the car and if they don't complete the car even after donation then we'll know not to donate to them anymore and they won't be trusted, sounds like a good system to me! I think eBay and PayPal would be perfect
But that would be impossible unless the car was finished and ready for release. It's like me going to the gym asking money then when I get the certain amount of money then I will suddenly get a six pack... just not happening. Overall the donation is a good idea to make it slightly more worthwhile but they can never guarantee they will finish a mod. You can encounter limitless problems modelling the vehicle but when you jbeam it you will encounter endless problems.
I wonder what the devs think about this and if this could be set up through the actual forum or whatever. For me, it would defnitely not be a matter of "If I get an x amount I'll finish it, and if you don't pay you won't get it"... For me, it would just be "Hey, if you wanna donate a few cents, cool, very kind, if you don't want to donate, that's cool too, and you can enjoy the same exact content as everyone else". And like Rokzy said above, I can never guarantee I'll finish something anyway, I'm not the type of person that always commits to one project and then insists on finishing it. I think working on a project just because I get "paid" to finish that particular thing while my mind is somewhere else is not a great way to make good content That said, the Chaser will definitely be finished, because it's actually a car I'd love to import/buy one day in real life Making cars is a hobby for me, I do it in my spare time because I enjoy it, but getting some spare money for it would be real cool, even if it's very very little That said, I imagine it would be nice to give those who donate something in return, but I'm not sure if early access to WIP stuff would be a good idea, since it'll automatically seem like you're just "buying" into that, when I don't always have something interesting laying around(though I guess if you care enough to donate, they'll find anything silly I've made interesting enough?) ... I'll have to think about that one...
Just a list of donaters or an offer of a beer if you ever meet in person or something will do. Or even nothing. People would be donating to help you, not for any particular reward.
Again, ow my face. Hes already said he's only doing people he knows and trusts and that if you do ask he'll probably use that as a reason to exclude you from beta.
Yep. I hate beggers. Strange thing is, even though I edited the first post so it says there is no beta group yet, I still get the occasional PM from people asking if they can join it... So I figured I'll just post it again here. THERE IS NO BETA GROUP YET. Stop asking or you'll have a good chance of getting excluded :| When I make one, I will probably post about it, and if you make decent posts on the forum, you'll get an invite. It's that simple... It's people that I feel contribute to the forum, or at least try to, not people who write nice requests telling me how trustworthy they are or whatever in perfect English.
Beggers are indeed annoying, generally it's best to simply ignore them, or troll them, which is fun, especially via hidden links to Rick Astley's 1987 Hit "Never Gonna Give You Up" Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, the X80 is an excellent vehicle, and your model/jbeam is really doing it justice ^_^ Also, do you have any intention later on of doing the Cresta and Mark II variants?
\ I knew I recognized this car, I just didn't know the other name for it. My dad told me about how he used to have a Cressida in the Dominican Republic. This is awesome, now I really can't wait for this to be released. EDIT: Well I just continued reading from that point and found out that they are not the same car, oh well it's close enough
That would mean completely remodeling it the outside, at least for one of those... I know there's one which is pretty similar, but most of the X80 chassis are secretly completely different cars...
Would like to apologize for being the person you basically defined here lol. Bit stupid for me to bother you about it. Keep up the good work though man. Can't wait for when it's finished and if it's ever made public. Beep Beep, Tapatalk coming through..
Yeah, the Cresta has different front and rear panels, and it was only available in the sedan bodystyle, whereas the Chaser is hardtop only, meaning you would have to edit the whole roof line, body shell, doors and front clip. The Mark II though is fairly similar to the Chaser (as in the panels are the same shape) and it is available in the Hardtop body style like the Chaser, thus it would require less work than the Cresta. If you do ever end up doing all 3 models, it would be pretty easy to piece them together and voila, an MX73 Cressida Of course, if you only want to do the Chaser, I understand
Aye? Now I'm confused? I know you can tell the hardtop and sedan styles on the X71/X73 models, but I never knew they called it that on the X81? Like, I know they have the black panels on the c-pillars for the hardtop but a normal painted c-pillar on the sedan... But I've never seen roof differences between Cresta, Mark II and Chaser, apart from the design just being slightly different... Ie on the Chaser theres trim that cuts into the c-pillar a bit behind the rear side window, where the Cresta/Cressida have some plastic vent thing between the rear window and the c-pillar? But I don't see how that difference can be classified as one being a hardtop 4-door and the other a sedan bodystyle? Do they classsify them like that based on the A-pillar and door frames difference? (Like, the Chaser and Mark II have no window-frames on the doors, black/chrome a-pillars, but Cresta and Cressida have painted metal a-pillars and window-frames?). Either way though, the Mark II still has differently shaped trim behind the rear side window, so it would require a lot of re-working to fit the front and rear lights in there... I really doubt I can stay interested for long enough to do the Mark II, let alone rework the entire thing for the Cresta...
Basically, the sedan bodystyle has B-pillars, whereas the hardtop has no B pillars, and a slightly more sloped roofline. To help explain this better, let's go back to the X60. There were these two bodystyles, and the 3 different models. The Mark II was available in both hardtop and sedan, as was the Chaser, and the Cresta was hardtop only. Both X60 Chaser and Mark II bodyshells are identical, however the Cresta is a little different. In summary, there is one sedan shell and two hardtop shells for the X60. When the X70 came out, things changed a bit. The Chaser became hardtop only, and the Cresta was now sedan only, and the Mark II remained as both. Both hardtop shells are the same shape from what I can tell, it's just that the Mark II has the C-pillars coated in a black trim. The sedan shells between Mark II and Cresta though appear to be different. And that brings us to the X80. The same body style rules apply as they do on the X70 (Chaser=Hardtop, Cresta=Sedan, Mark II=both). It appears that the Chaser and Mark II hardtop bodyshells are identical. Once again, the Cresta bodyshell is different to all of the others. The MX83 Cressida appears to be the same body as a Mark II sedan. Hopefully this clears things up, and it does indeed seem like a bit of mesh editing to do all variations, so I can understand that you probably don't want to do them all. If you want to have a look at the lineage for these cars, along with every other JDM toyota ever, have a look at this site: http://www.toyota-global.com/compan...5years/vehicle_lineage/family_tree/index.html Basically, to celebrate 75 years of Toyota, they put up this site detailing every car they have ever produced for the Japanese market. It gives some nice factory photos and some basic specs (be careful, as I've spotted a number of errors in some of them). They used to have brochures, although I can't seem to view them anymore. That said, I can access some of them via my browsing history, so I don't know what's happened there..
