Alternatively, in the steam library, right click on BeamNG, then go to properties (last on list) then 'local files' then 'Browse local files'. I find that to be quicker, but it's up to you. You could even make a shortcut to the folder on your desktop to allow for even faster and easier access. :)

One thing I am wondering, is now that it runs thru steam, doesn't that kind of take some resources away from CPU/RAM to keep that going while BNG is running? I still play it as a standalone program, unless it does that already and I just don't know...When I start BNG with the desktop shortcut, it initializes with steam and stuff happens, then the game comes on, and I have noticed a slight drop in FPS (but actually for the first time today I reached up to 38FPS), Yesterday I cleaned my whole computer, complete restore, and OC a bit higher, was at 1.5 stock, went up to 2.4, and I am pushing 2.7 now...still not burning out!!

okay thanks uninstalling it now, appreciate it.

    - - - Updated - - -

dont mean to clutter this more but was there updates with the steam version?
the light from headlights/ taillights is different (look more like pre-update), and in fullscreen things seem to be squeezed skinnier than they were before. particularily the cars.
anyone else notice this? any ideas?

ummm, that's because the steam version is the pre-race update. the pre-race update has been out for quite a while now (it came out in july i believe)

I have a steam question so I will highjack this thread to stop the forum police spamming me with "search box blah waffle drone"

ok so is there a way to continue playing beamNg without steam and still get updates? My steam install is as wonky as a 1 legged table. The shadows are totally blacking out random objects and the steam client keeps doing stuff in the background causing lag spikes.

I have a sound set to play each time a program opens or closes and since having steam running, the sound for a million programs opening and closing happens every few minutes. During this the game starts lagging.

please tell me there is a way to avoid steam. I don't like it. It gets in the way and slows everything down. It even does it in offline mode :(

I have run cleanup.bat and I have used the nasty steam interface to check the integrity of the game files but this messed up shadow thing is still apparent. I can fix it temporarily buy opening the world editor, but after a while a new selection of blacked out objects pops up.

Any ideas what I can try to fix this?

something is def. strange with your setup as the files are the same: non-steam and steam version.
