I got my new parts today. My new M4400 motherboard for my laptop. IT HAS A FINGERPRINT READER. It also has a better GPU and the base is in much better condition than my old one. It also has a Core 2 Extreme sticker so people will think my CPU is better than it really is. (Until I actually buy a Core 2 Extreme or Quad that is.)

    Re: General discussion chat

So me and my husband spent the day yesterday in WestChester County, NY looking for a new house to move into in the next few months...In the Lewisboro, Mt. Kisco, Bedford, Katonah area. We are really loving the Katonah area, and some lakes around there seem to have a few houses for sale. One thing I am proud to say, is that I am also taking into consideration what type of internets are available. I cant do slow speeds, I just cant. But we found a few sweet little places, ranging from 349K to 549K...believe it or not, the 200K range that we are in has a lot of similar houses, just depends on the location. We found 2 houses RIGHT ON THE LAKE, like, you can cast a fishing lure out of the 3 seasons room into the water, or right from the dock that is attached to the house. I am very excited. This will be a really awesome change. Long Island is just too cramped, a lot of assholes, too much traffic, and not enough trees or quiet-ness.

This is the more finished, move-in ready home, without a "real" dock, but 2 doors down the shore of the lake from the ratty, "as-is" needs-TLC house:
    http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/43-Knapp-Rd-South-Salem-NY-10590/33045193_zpid/
The furniture and general aesthetic of the house is pretty old-school, grandma-type décor. However, we have big plans for all that wood, etc.

And this is the ratty one that qualifies for a 203K FHA Rehab loan:
    http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/47-Knapp-Rd-South-Salem-NY-10590/33045186_zpid/
We can easily dump about 100K into this little house, update the plumbing, electrics, services, and new floors, knock down some walls, etc. Lots of potential here. It even has a water garage, you know, for that fancy 2 person jet-ski that we don't yet have :p

Both houses are situated on approx. .50 Acre, which is a bit more than we have currently.

I think it is up to these 2 houses. The square footage is decent, (we don't want a huge house) and at around $250/sq.ft, these houses are right where we want to be as far as pricing is concerned.

The reason why we are really moving is because my husband secured a really sweet job as an Estate Manager for a VERY wealthy person who lives in Bedford, so we need to relocate and find a place far enough away from his job, but close enough to commute. This area ^ is within 20 minutes from his new job. We are now in the process of getting the current house prepped for sale. We luckily have a decent amount of equity in the current house, and with the change in scenery, we would only be increasing our mortgage payment about 50 bucks a month. (we currently pay 2700/mo). Just wanted to put this out there, as I am extremely excited and cant WAIT to get away from all the bullshit here on LI. Although, I will miss my friends and family, and the beach, I wont miss the traffic, pollution, nasty gas station bathrooms, and over-priced restaurants. I will keep the status of my living accommodations updated since I know you all care very much :p

Wow, that's really awesome. I'd love to live right on a lake. Then I wouldn't have to drive 30-50 minutes to a lake and spend another 15 putting the boat in the water. Just having my own dock and lift would be awesome.

yeah, that is our dream to live on a lake. And luckily, we found an area that has a few for sale that are within (reasonable) reach. To all those reading this, make sure you really just save up as much as you can. Im 24 years old, and looking for my second house. All because I busted my ASS when I was younger, worked decent jobs from when I was 16 years old, and saved up, and somewhat invested my money properly. It started with my first car, a 1994 SHO (hence my name) that I bought, and sold for a few bucks more than I bought it for. Then, after some investment in sparce land etc, I was able to assist with the down payment on my current house. Of course having a partner that makes good money as well helps, but without him, I am still able to plop down somewhere from 20-30K as a down payment on a house. Generally, banks want about 20% of the value of the house, but here in America, the government assists with "first time buyers", and there is a plethora of mortgage solutions, such as the FHA loans, that help you get into a house, fix it up, and flip it. We are lucky enough to have received 2 mortgage modifications, which essentially reduce the amount of the mortgage (in our case) about 100K, so we have a good amount of equity there. Plus our liquid cash (me saving up a lot of my car sales commissions) we are able to really pull the trigger and make a move that will really make us happy. Now, it all boils down to:
Do we get a fixer-upper, or a move in ready home at a higher price? What do you all think?

It depends on how much you are willing to put into a house. If you fix it up yourself you can make the house truly yours and make it fit your lifestyle, but it is also A LOT of work (depending on the condition of the house obviously) and other problems can arise such as mold, previous water/fire damage, and cracked or damaged foundations. Buying a higher price house that is move-in ready is extremely convenient and you can get some really nice houses, but then there's the chance that you won't find a house that truly suits you.

that's our issue...clearly, the house that is more expensive has a LOT of appeal, since it is more complete, and has really good bones. but it still needs a decent amount of renovations, all of which can be done relatively cheap and can also give us the chance to make it more unique. (the bedroom is so tiny, we def need to knock a wall down lol) but the cheaper house MAY have the possibility of rickedy-bones. So I dunno, we have to go back up state and check out some more. Yesterday, we checked out a lot of houses that were not near the water, so we are more interested in re-visiting it and seeing what these houses look like in the flesh.

Yeah, you just have to be careful. My aunt and uncle found a house they really liked on a huge lake in North Carolina. It was a really nice house (700K or something like that). They needed to update the kitchen of they were to buy the house and after further investigation the kitchen floor was sagging. They had an inspector come out and check the foundation and it turns out that it was cracked. If they wouldn't have had that inspector check the house, they would've bought it and been in for a lot more than they wanted.

or they would have renovated the kitchen and then the floor collapses lol that's one main thing that is sticking out to us, that the smaller, cheaper house, appears to be built on a foundation that is literally IN the water, whereas the other, more expensive house, is more on land, and it actually DOES have a dock, so I think that is the way to go...Plus, its turn-key, with minor cosmetic upgrades, and maybe a bit of floorplan fiddling. But no major work seems to have to be done there. The house we have now has just consistently been throwing us curveballs, with bad electrics, wacky ass floorplan, leaky roof (that was apparently 2 years old when we got the house) and all0around property maintenance, landscaping, intrusive roots from the giant trees, etc. It would be nice to move into a new house and not do any work except paint, carpet, and maybe hardwood floors or something like that. And that bedroom DEF needs to be address, the bed takes up the whole width of the room, which is a no-no. I need a king sizer in that bitch, and the size of the room wont cut it. Im super excited tho :):):):):):):):):):):):)

I would suggest staying away from doing hardwood in the entire house if you were thinking of the hardwood floor route, especially if there is a loft. You will be driven mad from the constant echoing and loud, reverberating noises.

Ehh, we have 1/2 hardwood in the house right now, and as long as you install good padding/insulation/vapor barrier underneath, the echoing is cut down considerably, plus all you really need is area rugs and furniture. The areas in this house don't seem to be too large, plus we have 2 big dogs, so tile/hardwood is our best friend lol

Yeah, that helps. Carpet at the lake is definitely undesirable.

Ive looked into it. I was gonna try and remove it from the d15 to see how it handled without it. Couldn't find it.

its on the rear brakes for the D15. I was looking for ABS on the wheels before, turns out quite logically its on the brakes.

    screenshot_00014.png
Car on the left was driven on the solid ground between the grass and mud at full throttle and has the stock covet brakes. Car on the right was driven between the mud and sand and has 4 wheel ABS. Did the test in 1/8th speed to try and make sure the timing of me slamming the brakes as I reach the end of the solid section was as perfect as possible on both cars.
Got a threshold of 2 on the ABS equipped car with a rate of 30. Still experimenting on how much each of these settings actually has. I gather threshold is how much skid is required before the ABS releases the brakes a tad, no idea if there is a unit to that. Rate seems to be how many times per second the ABS activates, apparently its upto 16 on a modern vehicle and usually at least 10, the grand marshal was running at a rate of 15. Grand marshal also had a threshold of 5 for the front and 4 for the rear, tried the GM settings on the covet and they seemed to make no difference whatsoever. threshold 2 was far more noticeable and rate I whacked up to 30 to see what difference it made which appears to be none.

    - - - Updated - - -

ABS does seem to slightly increase braking distance on the grass patch too which does correspond with a real system.

Ah. Well. I seem to have a problem. My new motherboard doesn't seem to like my chargers. I have three chargers for my Dells: One is a Chinese ripoff, it used to work fine but it just broke a few weeks ago. I also have a normal Dell charger that's always worked fine for me. (Like 60w or something.) Then I have a giant 130w Dell charger that none of my laptops recognize so they just run off it without charging the batteries. (Fine with me, I just use it when I use my laptop in bed.) The M4400 motherboard doesn't charge on either of the chargers because with the normal one it says it needs a 90w and on the 130w it just doesn't recognize it. Really annoying, especially since my E6500 board (Almost the same thing) can still charge the battery just fine.

I know that 4od wont let you block adverts anymore. Adult swim fails to function if you have ghostery (privacy protection) enabled which sucks.

No, it gets better. It's not like charitable advertising, either. It's for their domain costs. This site is rich as hell, they don't deserve my ads.
