Re: General discussion chat I made a $5 air conditioner. Peltier sandwiched between two heatsinks. Bottom (Hot) side has no fan and is just sitting in some water to keep it cool. (I left it running for over half an hour and the water reached ~95F.) Top (Cold) side has a fan to pull air through the cold heatsink. (imported from here)

Re: General discussion chat Another year of ewaste bin scavenging is already off to a great start. Found a Palm Pre (took a while to bypass activation), two HP Elitebook 2760p's, one of which I will use myself. I can't wait to see what other stuff I will retrieve from there!

Re: General discussion chat Idk, it may just be some schools who do it. This isn't some big bin outside, its a plastic barrel with the top sawed off that is labeled as such. I had to ask again, since we now have a new tech person, who is nicer, and she seems a lot more okay with me going through it. I will always go for laptops and phones, the latter being more common (older phones; only found that 4S by luck). I really like that Palm Pre though. The keyboard is shit, but it's like, a top model smartphone from 2009. It encourages homebrew software, so thats a big plus too. I will share my finds when I get them, and whether I can get them back and working again, usually by finding a charger for it.

Re: General discussion chat Damn, you're lucky. I once found a Palm Pre at school. It was inside one of the computers. (Someone popped out the floppy drive cover and stuck it in there or something.) But it was completely smashed and broken. I need to find out if they have any sort of ewaste thingie. I also once found a muffin in one of the comptuers.
Re: General discussion chat I once found a Dell Latitude C series in the ewaste pile at my school. Got caught with it and was told to return it before charges were filed. Apparently, Cohen pays the school for the ewaste stuff, and they pay by weight. Yea, like someone was going to notice a fucking Dell laptop missing, morons. And my schoolboard sits there and wonders why people like me hate going to their self-minded "utopia", when they attempt to file charges against a person who wants a Pentium 3 laptop! It was a P3 1GHz too! I could have used the thing. - - - Updated - - - That. Is. Amazing.

One of the only school district in Ohio that gives us the minimal amount of free time, has twice weekly drug checks for no reason, horrible administrations, teachers who act like movie stars, and has once sued a student for breaking a locker and later found it was a janitors fault. And my parents wonder why I want to move the hell away!
Re: General discussion chat My school system isn't all that bad. Pretty good actually, but the upper administration is comprised of assholes. Test scores is what they breath and live. I'm not Tanner, I'm student #748294. And they couldn't give and less shits than they already do about me. Me as myself. Im student #748294. I scored advanced on my tests last year. Yay #748294. Re: General discussion chat I know your name now. > I guess my schools have been pretty good. I've had some not so good teachers but the administrators have always been cool people. My old one (mansfield ISD in texas) was pretty great even. We got iPads.
