Hello! I appologize profusely for my lack of activity, but I am back after the pandemic!

I honestly have no idea if the devs read this yet, but I sure would be honored if they did.

So, anyone got any thoughts on how we could pass this on to the devs? I'd love to hear thier opinion!

    Thanks very much,
    Dawid

This is a good suggestion, and actually the math for it already exists (kinda)

Back in RoR this is actually exactly how boats worked. It didn't really have a flow rate calculation for "how fast water got in" or whatever, but you would define a "buoyancy" triangle section that would essentially act as an "air pocket" in the simulation giving the vehicle calculated buoyancy. Once one of the beams on this simulated air pocket was broken, well... the simulation treated it as if it had zero buoyancy... thus why the boat sinks instantly in that video.

Anyways, yes... it can 100% totally be done... just will it be done... that is the question.

Very much so, you are correct. I really hope the devs take a look into this, even though I understand they are very busy with other stuff.

I guess we could hope for them to take a look at this if they run out of ideas :p

I think that your idea is perfect!
I hope devs will read this!

    Amazing work, man!

You can sorta already do this by editing the water in the world editor.

I think this is a good idea. Sadly, it is a very deep rabbit hole of water physics that I don't believe the devs are willing to go down. I do think this would be a nice addition, though.

Well, it might not be quite as far fetched an idea as one would think. When offroading, people often push the limits of how deep of water they can drive in. Often times this can get to a point where the vehicle enters a body of water fast enough that water rushing into the vehicle wasn't fast enough to keep up with the water level outside of the vehicle, thus, for a short time, causing the vehicle to float somewhat.

Not that you didn't know that, but my point is that something like this is actually valid and the Beam team is always looking for where to add that next level of realism... so... it may not be THAT far fetched that they would actually do this.

I see your point and I agree, but I can totally see this ending up like the firetruck discussion.

Ahh... yeah... that's a good point that I wouldn't have even thought about.
