Even before the initial release, the Covet was added in an early dev build just a couple of months after BeamNG came into public existence with the original CryEngine 3 trailer.

Some sort of factory 4WD covet is definitely coming. It's got tons of potential for career mode- Find an abused 4WD covet, thrash it around and race it against 4wd LeGrans and Pigeons. Alternatively, you could rip the transfer case from a wrecked 4wd covet and plop it into another covet, sort of like what Honda guys do with CRVs. I just don't know how it would be implemented.
One one hand, a new bodystyle in the vein of the Civic Shuttle and Colt Vista would be the closest thing to a minivan that we've gotten thus far, and might provide interesting driving dynamics (more top-heavy?)
On the other hand, something more akin to a Golf Country or a Panda 4x4 would be a lot less effort, but would also miss out on a new vehicle niche.

The Shuttle is a 5-seat vehicle and the Colt Vista is a 7-seater. Which gave me an idea: how about having both such bodystyles as part of the Covet lineup? A Shuttle-like vehicle is ideal for those who want a more versatile vehicle than the standard 3-door Hatchback Covet but they don't need 7 seats. A Colt Vista-like model is ideal for those who want the 7-seater ability of its larger size or just some even more room than what the smaller Shuttle can offer. And both these bodystyles can offer AWD versions too.
So we have 5 Covet bodystyles: the classic 3-door Hatchback, the 2-door Glasshatch Coupe, the 4-door Sedan, the 'Shuttle' and the 'Vista'.
And, as you said, the 'Vista' is tall, so it's gonna have some interesting dynamic behavior, especially with AWD and the accompanying lifted struts!

What makes you think we're getting a coupe and a sedan? and why would we get both a 5 and a 7 seater?

Good question. Nothing, tbh. It's just some ideas based on what was actually in style back in the 80s.
These ideas are also based on the fact that these 4 bodystyles cover many open niches in the BeamNG lore. There's no small and light FWD coupe (we only have the 200BX, which is RWD), there's no small 4-door sedan older than the Sunburst (and smaller than the 1988 VM301 Pessima), there's no 5-door Hatchback older than the FCVs and there's also no MPV (let alone a small, Compact MPV, like the 'Vista' is)!

I think a 4-door hatch is very likely but I doubt that a sedan will be coming, since we already have a Japanese FWD 80's/early 90's sedan in the form of the Pessima.

Well the Pessma is a Midsize sedan, a Covet sedan would be classified as a compact (at least in my opinion). and as far as I know, we do not have any compact sedans.

What you said is an actual fact. The 3-door Hatchback Covet is a Subcompact car and the 1988 Pessima is a Midsize car, measuring ~4.5m in length. There's a lot of room in between for fitting all 4 bodystyles we're talking about. The 2-door Coupe could have the same length as the 3-door Hatch (making it a Subcompact) while the 'Shuttle' could be larger than these two (which is natural since it's got 5 doors) and the 'Vista' could be larger still. And the Sedan could slot in between the 'Shuttle' and the 'Vista'.

    So we have:

    Subcompacts (same length and width)
    • 3-door Hatchback Covet
    • 2-door Coupe Covet (preferably with a Glasshatch design)

    Compacts (smallest to largest)

    • 5-door 'Shuttle' Covet
    • 4-door Sedan Covet
    • Minivan 'Vista' Covet

Well, a lot of people say that it will be the Covet... with maybe an group B homologation. I'm agree that it will be awesome. But, there is a little problem. The time! The goup B is between 1982 an 1986. However, the covet has been made between 1987 and 1991. After the Group B. But it's clearly possible that it will be the Covet. It's just strange when you look about the dates.

The Group 5 Bolide was made from 1984 to 1988 too, when Group 5 didn't exist anymore.

I will say you've got to remember BeamNG isn't real life, it's probably got a fictional timeline.

In my opinion, it would be better to have :

    • 3-doors Hatchback (Like the one we have now)
    • 5-doors Hatchback (Just 2 doors more)

I took a Peugeot 205 for example because we can see the difference easily
    • 2-doors coupĂ© (similar to a Honda CRX)
    • 4-doors sedan

    • Shuttle stuff

I don't really think that it would make sense to have a Shuttle looking thing, AND a Vista one ; I mean, it's a bit redondant...

    • The teaser seems to show about an high-performance variant, like the ones from the Group B homologation, and I think that we can allow ourselves to imagine this as a specific variant, not just a widebody

    • I also remember of a ute/pick-up mod for the Covet, and I'm just thinking about the fact that it would be cool to have this really small niche filled in the game
    • We could imagine some kind of facelifts too, here are some notsogood drawings I made back then on my big ideas thread :

    • Btw, here is what I suggested about the engines / facelifts there :
    upload_2022-2-2_18-54-22.png
(* New old Ibishu logo that was on the Widgeon/Pigeon, changed on the other facelifts)

On another hand, I was a bit disappointed about the mk2 Pessima remaster, because even if everything that was made was greatly done, there are still some lacks that could have been filled easily ! I mean, just a wagon, or a fastback and a non USDM version (and I'm not speaking about an hypothetical facelift, because if I remember correctly, it happened that japanese cars of those times didn't even have one)(and I forget Diesel !!) !

And what's the point with the Covet ? Well, I think that, like the Pessima, it has a great (or even greater) potential, but it isn't impossible to not see as many new variants as we can expect :p

Yes I know that it's not real life and i'm agree with you that it will probably got a fictional timeline. But the Covet is litterally a Civic of the exact same production year

The 5-door Japanese Hatchback is a good concept but it wasn't really commonly used amongst the Japanese car companies back in the 80s and 90s. I only know of Toyota and Mitsubishi using it somewhat back then (in their Corollas and Colts respectively) and even they didn't bring these cars to Europe. With the only exception being the 1982 Mitsubishi Colt 5-door, we only saw Japanese 3-door Hatchbacks here until 2000, when the 7th gen Civic (EP) came out!
The 5-door Hatchback idea is better connected with the European car makers, hence why you posted a picture of a 5-door Peugeot 205.

The CR-X is exactly the car I have in mind for the 2-door Coupe bodystyle, so I agree with you on this one.

The 4-door Compact Sedan can fit in the Covet lineup perfectly, so I agree with you on this one too.

I believe there's room for both the 'Shuttle' and the 'Vista'. Since there's no normal 5-door real-life Covet equivalent, the 'Shuttle' can take this place and offer more headroom and more ease of ingress/egress than the 3-door Hatchback Covet.
The 'Vista', being the largest of all the aforementioned offerings, can satisfy those who want 7 seats. The 'Shuttle' isn't large enough to be able to fit 7 and the 'Vista' isn't large enough to be entering the Midsize Minivan fields either!

    ;-)

You know, looking back at that original trailer back from the beginnings of BeamNG makes me wonder.

Has the Road Sign prop ever been updated? I would have thought by now that it would at least have had a texture overhaul or the option to include diamond-shaped caution signs.

If this is the Covet remastering coming on the way, I want to mention some details in need of fixing.

    1) The paint design of the ZXi orange factory graphics and piping needs to be independent of the body colour. It's only visible as long as the body colour is white. When you change the colour of the body, these graphics disappear. They need to be independent and colourable.
    2) Continuing with the paint designs, the "Old Paint" needs to be independent of any other paint design. Let's say someone found a rusted out ZXi Special Edition or a GTz Special Edition or a Race car. It just can't be done. And this is a problem to all BeamNG cars having an Old Paint option.
    3) The Ibishu Blades wheel shown in the picture seems to be having a Two-Tone variant with black inserts around the triangular holes. This variant isn't available in the game, we only have the Silver and White variants. Please include this variant in the update, it looks very nice. :)
