I think it was based on the toyota crown and some other Toyota's, but I'm not sure.

Actually......I think the grill look similar enough to this
1989 Nissan Cedric Gran Turismo (this gen was produced from 87-91 IRL . which fit the lore)

hey Nekkit, could I bother you for an ingame photo of the front 3/4 view of the Serenity? I'm trying to illustrate my thoughts on the design but I'm having a hard time using just the matcap, since a lot of the detail comes from the textures as well.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I meant that i needed and image that specifically included the front grille and headlight design, since that's the part I needed to see textured!

    Looks lovely as always!

Ive realized my main issue with the front is that the lines that make up the headlights don't carry through into the grille. You can see below that the lines that make up the top and bottom of the headlights are shifted downwards to make up the grille, which makes the front feel a bit structurally unstable visibly as it breaks the strong and supportive horizontal lines seen in other designs from the era. As another result of that, the top of the grille is in line with the hood line, rather than above of it, which keeps it from looking like a powerful, imposing capstone as it is on other designs, as it feels a bit sunken down, as if in quicksand, due to the angled down edges of the headlights that carry into it, as if the body is falling under the weight of the grille, which makes it appear subtly weaker and less imposing.

    vs

You can see how in other designs from the era, the lines created by the headlights are utilized in the grille design, making the whole front end feel taller, broader, and more supported, which in turn gives off an imposing and powerful emotion, especially due to the chrome trim above the grille, which, due to its squared off nature and direct connection into the hood, headlights and grille lines, comes off as almost a crown atop the design, or some other ornamental symbol of exclusivity.

In its most simple form, it comes down to the difference in perceived strength and stability (power) that comes from a solid horizontal line versus a curve. In this case, most especially one that bends downwards, which humans often associate with more negative emotions and concepts.

A food way to illustrate it is by placing a circle at the center of both lines. The curved on looks as though it is sagging and bending underneath the ball, whilst the static line looks as though it is upholding it.

Sorry for the long text, I indulged myself a fair bit, haha :p

Yeah, that does make sense, i might change the bottom part of the lights to match the grille better, i dont want to change the hood since it preserves ibishu styling in a way.

I think you could get away with changing the top of the grille without changing the hood style, by just inverting the indentation into a bulge.
