Hello, I uploadet a mod on the official BeamNG website about 2 weeks ago, and now it has been re-uploaded to 3 different websites (not by me). And then I ceckt out these persons and the reuploadet many mods like Ibishu Prodigy, Capsule and many other mods(they give credits). My question is why are they doing this I mean you can just download it on the official BeamNG website. Is this legal?
Its either they want to act like they made the mod and be berks or they have nothing better to do somehow. Most of the websites are based in russia and they have no copyright laws so its legal in russia.
they mainly do it to get ad revenue from people visiting their site. it's a slimy practise, but unfortunately there's not much that can be done about it.
Yeah. Only if there was a way to get the domains taken down. It has gotten to the point where Jeff Favinagno even credited the wrong person when reviewing the crown vic mod.
Unless the mods uploaded to this site will have an unique hash attached to them which the game will be able to recognize & either allow the mod or disallow when it has been obtained from other sites, there isn't really much you can do to protect your mods
What you're describing pretty much sums up the purpose of third-party websites. Anything that's made public here on the forums or repository will inevitably be reuploaded onto external sites. Like others have said, there's nothing you can do about reuploaders. Though common sense will dictate that the forums and repository should be the only place to get BeamNG mods, instead of going through multiple ads on unofficial websites.
