nah, its trying to run steam twice on 1 machine with different users so you can then run the game twice and play co-op on the same machine rather than across the network between 2 machines (I think)

No, I send one of them to my girlfriend's Steam account. So I had the game on my Steam account and my girlfriend had the game on her Steam account.

I can do this with every other co-op game I own, so the "of course it didn't work" doesn't make sense because I am in this situation every time I play a co-op game with my girlfriend and it works for everything else (because nothing else requires Steam).

Actually, we would still be playing across the network (the game servers are remote and you can't run your own), but you've gotten the jist of it :)

I'm trying to run 2 instances of some games I have in my computer and I can't. What games worked for you this way?

Aside from the people who own the original suing me in the ground, that would be great! :)

I'm actually coding some other games too, so I may be able to make some money on those.

Sounds useful. I have something similar in my car (I have wired the radio control stalk to an Arduino) so I can control MPD on my Car-PC.

I've had 2 BeamNG's running at once before the steam version (although I could probably get multiple to launch post-steam too, cba to try on this machine)

What games are you having issues with? As I said, all my other games work fine (multiplayer examples: Kerbal Space Program, Sacred, Rune, Unreal Tournament 2004, Battle for Wesnoth).

Need to do something similar, I swapped head units in my car as the OEM one died. I originally had steering wheel controls but the cheap 2nd hand head unit I bought doesnt have them. Now I need to find a way of getting one of my many microcontrollers to read the steering wheel controls and somehow send commands to an android handset.

OK its not multiplayer and my laptop really doesn't like it but 2 BeamNG are running

and what is the game you were trying to play that didn't work, because it's more then likely the devs of that game made it that way themselves

It has nothing to do with the developers. This situation occurs with any game that requires Steam to be running. I can't play game X, while my girlfriend plays game Y, if both games require Steam to be running.

considering i can play gmod with 1 acc/copy with my siblings, i highly doubt it's steam doing that (and gmod is also steam only)

You've missed the previous posts showing that you cant run steam twice with 2 seperate accounts on 1 machine instead of 2 machines as is conventional.

i log in on one pc, download all the things, log in on there's, download all the things, put both pc's in offline mode, start a local gmod server, and join on both ends (it adds (1) to the end of my steam name on siblings side, like minecraft xbox does with online if someone joins you in the same house on same console, so my steam name is logoster, so in the player list there's me "logoster" then my siblings "logoster(1)")

Yeah, as SixSixSevenSeven mentioned, two machines aren't available (nor is running a local server for the game, which is why Steam is "required").

This is such a unique situation, not many people are going to be in a situation like this.

Doesn't steam have a service that allows you to run a game on one PC and stream it to another? Maybe that could work but idk. I too have noticed a lot of games will not allow two instances to be running at the same time so it could very well be the devs doing this. Anyone with Kerbal on steam and a friend who also has it and is willing to share their account with you should try to run it twice through two steam accounts, or with any other game Xyem mentioned.

Another idea is have you installed the game twice through steam? Once for each account trying to play it? That will likely solve your issue in this regard. If you have done that then idk.

I know it is an unusual and rare situation. However, it is a perfectly legitimate setup and Steam stands in the way, intentionally so, as Valve have coded it to do this (I contacted Steam support and they confirmed it wasn't a bug).

Yes. We are logged into different OS accounts and different Steam accounts. Steam refuses to start for the second person to launch it.

And once again you've missed it.
Its running the game twice on one PC thats the problem, not between 2 PCs because there arent 2 PCs available to play it on, just 1.

what, different os accounts? i'm quite certain it's not possible to have more then 1 account being used at the same time (ik it's very possible to have multiple accounts logged in, but not actually being used at the same time)

also, do you have another pc? (ik you said you couldn't afford another gaming pc, but i mean any type of pc) if you do, specs?

one more question, what is the game you couldn't get working on the same pc (curious because i'd actually like to look into it, and see if it's possible to bypass anything steam is doing, that and if it's enough to make you hate steam this much, it must be a really good game (i have a few tricks up my sleeve on forcing things to work :p))
