changed the transmission fluid, changed the serpentine belt. Videos never do it justice sound wise but it still sounds decent. Sounds insane irl --- Post updated --- also don't believe the lifetime transmission fluid bull these modern cars have. fluid was never changed till i became the owner. shit was so nasty and was so broken down water probably would of worked better. luckily there wasnt any metal shavings so I caught it in time. Its like a brand new car shifts so much quicker i can also drive it with my foot much better.
You can get it out. A head bolt snapped on me when I pulled the heads off my Regal, it was removed with a special drill bit. Not the biggest issue in the world, but will be a pain. Hope the repair goes well.
See, it's not the biggest issue in the world when you can see the part of the bolt that broke off. I've had broken bolts before. This thermostat housing is three pieces: the water neck, housing itself, and housing base on the cylinder head. The bolt goes through the water neck and though the housing and bolts into the head. I need an easy-out that's like 5 inches long to get down in there, and then I need a tap that's like a foot long so I can chase the threads/cut new ones. These are not things that are easily obtained in my neck of the woods. This is a fucking problem. My best bet is to get two brand new thermostat housing bolts, grind the broken bolt flat and weld an easy-out to it, weld a tap to the other bolt, and try to drill a pilot hole as straight as possible into the cross threaded piece. The only problem with this is I don't know how to weld. If I DID know how, I don't have a welder. And I don't know anybody who can weld. So it's just sitting as a lawn ornament until I can figure something else out.
Ouch, I wish you luck and hope you find a solution for it. Last month I installed new lower control arms in the Regal. Now I have poly front bushings. I need to re-tighten the rearmost bolts on the arm, and also probably the ball joints as I didn't have an impact or breaker bar or anything. Already re-tightened the front most bolts and locktited them with a breaker bar (and cheater bar due to it not being enough the first time) since I could get to them with the car on the ground.
Tried a simple 5-minute mod that's supposed to make any Veloster Turbo's low-speed throttle response better. Ended up turning into an all-day dumpster fire because of a lost nut (came off the bolt, bounced off the airbox lid, and disappeared into the darkest depths of the engine bay while I was trying to put the intake hose back together) and accidentally setting the air filter clean side down for a moment. By some utter miracle, there was a nut laying around the house that was close enough to the right size and thread pitch to hold the thing together securely, but I had to borrow a car to go to the parts store and get the air filter cleaning kit, and I still can't actually drive mine until the filter dries, all because of 2-3 minuscule pieces of foreign matter on the clean side I couldn't quite get rid of with my bare hands. (It's a K&N, so they were sticking to it.) The smell of air filter cleaner wafting through the house is giving me a sore throat, but if I put it outside, it'll freeze tonight and/or get more dirt blown into it. Why do these kinds of things happen to me?
Was bored so i had to spend more money, glad it was on new sealed beams (the're superior dammit!), just dont feel like dealing with a burning car. Next week is the big week, ill be getting my vroom vroom back on the road !
Tightened up the rearview so it wouldn't flop about, fixed the seat runner tensioner thing (no longer a two person job to move the front seat), drained out 20 litres of the old fuel and poured in premium 98, and found some paint that actually matches the car colour. Now this is where things get interesting; Seems stuff on the car has randomly been getting fixed without me touching it. Firstly, the clock had been unplugged, and i wasn't about to try plugging it in (complete nightmare), well that somehow plugged itself in. Secondly, after i bled the brakes the pedal seemed to get 3 quarters of the way back up then get stuck, also fixed itself. Weird, also this week is hopefully the big week, the engine should be done in the next few days
Engine not done yet, bastards haven't even started putting it together. Freed up the rear compensating port in the front brake reservoir, results in the brake pedal that pops all the way back up doing away with my cardboard and ducktape fix for the brake light switch, also because the pedal has been pushed more and further than it has in possibly forever all the rust in the cylinder bore has possibly scratched up the cylinder walls and the rubbers have more than likely perished; Meaning now the pedal will go to the floor. Great. Sent the master cylinder to be rebuilt, was going to use this as an excuse to replace the prehistoric rubber lines, but not only can i not figure out how to get them off at the hard line, the hard line is so corroded and rusted out sounding (lots of crunching and crackling) that i dont even want to sneeze on them. At least i fiddled with the drivers door striker latch, so that door is nice to use now. Old cars are fun
Thats back in, brakes work now (i think). Paid for the engine today, its all done, no pics. Another four weeks and the it'll be back in the correct place, also interesting to note, the engine i killed wasn't actually a "Super" six it was a very early '60s reco'd engine, so it had no cam or head work, the reason why it seemed to go pretty good is probably because it was bored .60 thou which seems to indicate it has been rebuilt before. Took the steering wheel off to replace the quadrant light, surprisingly easy to do, just a little bit of Inox and she just slips right off, i dont think ive ever seen a working column shifter light working before so this'll be nice Only problem is that the new bulb is too long and wont fit in the blue filter thing Notice how that bulb holder thing sticks out a little, means it wont fit underneath the indicator plate thing. Its not an issue but its annoying the completionist side of me
Injen CAI installed as of like a week and a half ago but i forgot to post about it lol i also went and took some good photos of it with the new rims installed
Removed the fender off the Val', making the job for the panel beater easier (and cheaper) by removing all the useless shit from the car, purchasing a new fender and headlight surround. All they have to do is just bend the hood back to shape and minorly bend the inner fender and radiator support. insurance company paid me out what i insured it for... more than enough for fixing it and then some. Found some "expert" fixes on that fender too. Pictures: first pic of the damage, looks nasty dont it the worst of the damage, very cheap fix the expert rust fixes, wicked aint it
