Every time I try to modify the game jbeams to have some fun and try to re zip the modified jbeam files I must either restart the game and lose time or I am lucky and after reloading the lua scripts I can continue without restarting, but most of the time the game crashes.

Is there any reliable way to do this and not restart the game every time ?

Just unpack the mod and move to unpacked folder, then you can reload it with ctrl+r after saving the file

BeamNG prioritize User Folder over game folder. For example. If you want to mess with Piccolina, create a folder vehicles\autobello\ and copy the jbeam from the original autobello.zip over this folder. Then you can edit the jbeam files without affecting original game content. Reload the vehicle via Ctrl+R after each edit
