They seem super awesome. I think i will upgrade to the gtx980 if the price is right in the uk. Recommended Price = $550 Performance = around 780ti (better in most cases but there are a couple exceptions) Temps (gigabyte non reference) @ full load = 65*c Power draw @Full load = 165w (minimum recommended psu = 500w) It also overclocks like a badass from the cards that have been in the hands of reviewers. Non-Reference cooled cards are already on the market as well as non reference pcb cards. In the UK that should be around £330, but currently they are retailing for £430 or £470 with aftermarket cooler. Lets hope the price goes down as availability increases.
There is an aftermarket 970 that is clocked at 1401 boost. It nearly matches the 780ti for $380. *drool* I want one.
I won't be getting a new graphics card for another year or two at least. My 280x should suffice for the time being.
My 7870 will be one year old in a few months... given the abuse I've put it through iunno how much longer it's gonna last.
Yeah, I'll keep my HD 7950 for a loooong time. There isn't enough improvement in my opinion to upgrade.
depending on prices at the time of upgrading my gpu, i may end up getting one as my gpu is just pure crap, just horrible (it's actually being a bottleneck on GRIDMAP it's so bad)
Yeah, you may notice a very slight performance improvement over intel hd2500, but it wont be very noticeable. Sarcasm ofc
I still haven't gotten a response from Gigabyte on my RMA. If they don't have any 280x's left I might be able to convince them to give me the $300 is cost at launch back. If they do then that's most of a 970.
For me its a replacement for an aging GTX460, but my Athlon II is much higher priority for replacement because it is really showing its age when a 2.5ghz macbook can out perform it for gamecube emulation :/
The R9-290x outperforms these new cards and is cheaper; the only arguable difference i can make when choosing the newer cards over something such as the 290x is that they are more energy efficient. Look at the benchmarks... I quickly skimmed trough and the 980 beats the 290x on every one of them I saw... while running cooler... and more silent... with less power consumption.

Well, damn, looks pretty sore for the 290x now :L Depressing (can't think of a better word to describe this) to think of all the potential power gone to waste (i assume they have bottlenecked something? Maybe drivers? i don't know, if you know, please tell me, i find this kinda stuff interesting ). Still not too keen on the price, but it'll teach me to just look at specs. Thanks once again.
Nicer that its cheaper than a 780ti and has some feature that will be usefuls in a few years but other wise its kinda what I expected and isn't all that amazing. R9 295x2
They look great, but my R9 270X runs fine right now for what I do. If I come by a used one for cheap, I'd grab it, though.
Its AMD. They do performance for price damn well, they don't do actual performance or power consumption that well. 2nd rate. They do the job, but you get what you pay for - less. I've known several mates AMD GPU's to be DOA or fail shortly after purchase and quite a few games also have compatibility issues (even BeamNG has the weird ghost cars bug and some of the mod maps have had issues on AMD) so I frankly refuse to touch them with a bargepole.
