I wouldn't really call it user friendly, each large piece has its own UV map, if combined into one you wouldn't be able to line it up anyway since the smaller pieces have no UV maps due to being too small to realistically put stickers or decals on. And there will be so many different part variants in the final version that a shared UV would be a mess. My workflow is basically making whatever I want on the big pieces without worrying if it will line up, then selecting the smaller pieces with proper colors to match the big ones, it will always look janky in the end but that's what custom lego contraptions often look irl too so it's fine. Some examples of the part UVs if you are interested, it is not all of them and all are subject to change, and there will be more as I add more large parts:
Progress update 06: Before adding the light bars, which I haven't fully designed in mind yet, I decided to add those wigwag lights like the Bastion and some mod cars have. And I made them customizable too. The results are pretty cool I think. It works on all light variants in the mod and there are LOTS of them as you can see on the config screenshots. It took 10+ KB worth of materials, 20+ KB worth of glowmap in Jbeam, and a simple custom LUA file for the new electrics. Just look at this... It's not even the whole glowmap for the mod, there are also underglow lights and nitrous fire effects in it of various colors, everything standardized to prevent conflicts and allow max customization.
Nice! You got any Plans about the License Plates? Not sure if you can even add custom ones, would be hella fun to have the LEGO ones
The real lego ones have different dimensions than vanilla ones, so they would only work on this car when added. If you really want them, I can add, but they have a very plain design and would clutter the parts selector (there are dozens of rear bumper variants available of different sizes and colors and with different plates already, since I made the plates not removable from bumpers like real lego, that would add even more of them, and front bumpers too)
I was only asking if it was possible, but after that it sounds senseless, and I honestly like how the default Plates look on it
Well it sure is possible, a lot of things are possible, such as making a tank version and a plane version, but the question is that if it's worth the effort, and the answer is obviously no
i like this idea of making a lego car in BeamNG, i thought it will be a joke mod at first, but holy shit its real also, i dont have to worry about my custom lego cars destroyed since i can do that in game
Not enough to show on this thread yet, as I have little time now due to university, but I have been working on this in my free time, fixed some bugs with the dummy where it wouldn't work too stable on a few configs, started adding some police light bars, after I finish them I need to add some more modern police skins to use the LED light bars, and rework some of the placeholder configs that make no sense including most of the police ones, then I will write a progress update. After that I'll add the remaining police accessories like flashers, LED signs, push bars, spotlights, interior bits etc. And that will be all for the police variants so I'll be able to move to the sport and tuner ones.
does the steering wheel work?? what i saw in one of the vids i noticed the steering wheel does not work so please make it work.
I don't blame you, you were too busy eating a grape to notice that the car wasn't the right one. Seriously though, like I always do with shorts, you could always do something else while you wait to the short to restart if you want to make sure of something. The car was on screen for about 4 or 5 seconds, fore than enough to notice that 1. not the same lego car 2. kinda crappily made compared to this one 3. Doesn't look like a lego car at all, probably only called that due to how it breaks 4. very off topic. On topic question - will the hood/ trunk or doors be openable? I doubt it because it's lego, but I would like to know.
Doors are openable with key bindings, hood can just break off when you click break all hinges but doesn't physically open since there are no actual hinges, trunk is just a bunch of solid pieces so it won't open and realistically you only access the cargo area from the interior instead (there is a hole in the back of the seat or you could remove the parcel shelf)
