What I don't understand is how you can crash... on an oval. I don't see people crashing on roundabouts.

Its usualy when two people go to pass at the same time, theres to much momentum so one usualy has to try to dodge= in spinning out and crashing

There's a difference between going 20 around a roundabout and going 180 on an oval with 30 other cars around you.

So hey, how about Jeff Gordon getting his 90th career win, becoming only the third driver in NASCAR history to do so, and first in the "modern era" (since 1971)? And to cap it off, it was the 20th anniversary of his win in NASCAR's first Brickyard race in 1994, on a day memorialized at the speedway as "Jeff Gordon Day". Pretty impressive imo. Thoughts? How did your driver do?

Thats a great feat for sure. he was dominant all race, no one had anything for him lol. Usually i listen to Jrs radio and what not, he qualified in the 30s, didnt go great in practice. as race went on car came to him, a yellow flag late in race cost him a top 5. he ended up coming 9th.

Jr won pocono earlier in the season, they are running there this weekend so hopefully he can grab another win

I like Gordon. He's a nice guy and an awesome driver. I think he wins the campionship this year.

It's been a great year to be a Jr fan, so I wouldn't bet against him at Pocono. Then again, I wouldn't bet against any of the Hendrick stable at Pocono, all four have won here quite recently and always seem to be strong.

I'm a Kahne fan myself, so that yellow late in the race was killer for me, but in hindsight, it let him save enough gas to make it to the end. Plus a Gordon win is definitely not a negative in my book.

Jr. won, not a big surprise, but the Glen could be devastating, although he finished third at Sonoma in June. The Glen always provides good racing, wouldn't expect this to be any different. My pick to win is Ambrose. Allmendinger might contend, but he won't win. And I think Martin Truex Jr. has a good run, at least a top-ten, maybe better.

To all the people saying, "It isn't that hard to drive in a circle." Have you ever tried stock cars on an oval in any video game or maybe even in real life? Sure from the casual observer it looks rather easy but just like how in BNG the Bolide gets a bit squirrely with full throttle and trying to turn. With NASCAR not only do you have that issue but you have to add in all the turbulence from the cars around. Now I don't really watch NASCAR or racing for that matter very often but when I do regardless of the series just by understanding a thing or two about how cars work you can tell how skilled these guys are.

Top gear does a good job illistrating this.

If you havent heard/seen, lastnight Kevin Ward (20) was killed last night from the car of Tony Stewart (Sprint Car) on a dirt track in New York. He wont be racing today at Watkins Glen and Reagan Smith will take his seat. Isn't being investigated criminally but as an on-track crash/incident.

Oh lord almighty. Reading the description I was expecting a straight up 2 car collision, instead I just watched a guy get run down by another car.

    Sorry ill put more warning.

In all honesty i seen an incident like this coming. All the races you see where someone gets wrecked, gets mad and gets out of his safe (unless otherwise) vehicle, then walks toward the cars on track doing 40+mph at pace speed (estimate). Just to show his displeasure at a driver. Something was bound to happen

There is 1 video I have seen which is more cringe worthy than that. "The Zapruder Film", so named because it is literally a roll of film shot by Abraham Zapruder on a home movie camera, the subject, JFK assassination, right up close and personal, for us guys watching stuff on youtube its a benefit to only be filmed in a very low quality (forensically I am sure they would have wanted much better though).

On the subject of that, over the years ive seen everything. I can safely say i wont be going to about 10+ different countries from what ive seen from there. Beheadings (chainsaw, dull knife etc) skinned alive, headshot from a .50. just to name a few lol. it isnt pretty but it sure does make you appreciate the type of living conditions you have in these first world countries.

In about half an hour to an hour the race will start at watkins glen. if you cant watch it here is a website with some live feeds.
