Never had an issue with AMD so far and I've been with them for 6 years now (HD 4870, HD 5850, HD 7950). And now I'm pretty happy that my 2 year old HD 7950 at 1.2Ghz is faster than a GTX 770 stock (it is already faster at 1.1Ghz, so 1.2Ghz is even faster, and this on stock volts and 69ºC max temps.). And some cards fail no matter if they are from AMD or Nvidia. My friend's GTX 260 for example died in 8 months.
Yeah they are lower performance over all but performance to cost is very very good. They are currently behind gaming wise with CPU's though. I myself have never had problems with them failing like that or with compatibility problems in any other games (minus some maps in BeamNG ofc) As for the issue with maps and other objects that's just caused by Torque 3d being pretty awful...
Seems like one of those things where it's only worth upgrading if you skipped a gen. Not greatly more powerful than my current card so I'm fine as it is.
I skipped 2 gens. Provided the gtx980 gets to under £375 its going to be quite nice. Should be a significant 1up from my 560ti.
Really excited for these cards. The funny thing is I just got a 750 ti so it's like I already have a 950 ti, albeit a little slower. Because Maxwell.
Im not sure what they will do there. But if they are going to change the naming system next year then who knows what they will do on the low end side. Since it will be unlikely to have repercussions.
The way I see it, there's not much of a difference with any gaming-grade graphics cards. Unless of course they're outdated. But if you can run any game on high settings with pretty much any 700 and maybe even 600 series cards, then I don't see much of a point in upgrading past that.
I've had 2 Nvidia cards blow up on me. Overpriced poorly made junk. AMD is better for the price. Oh, the cards that died? Quadro FX5600 GeForce 8800GTX Oh dear, I accidentally gave my opinion on the internet. Commence the flame!
Guys (and gals) pls stahp This is not the place for an Nvidia vs AMD war. Go create your own thread for that, If you want to discuss how an amd card compares with an Nvidia one then that is totally fine. But dont go round throwing insults at xxx brand. Its more likely to be the fault of the people who actually made your graphics card it broke. AFAIK its more common for something on the card to die than on the chip itself unless you were doing something stupid. I am interested to see what AMD do in terms of pricing etc.
Looks like the 970 you are looking at around £250 give or take. I can't afford that yet and I can't afford my CPU upgrade either (which is a higher priority). But to me that's a reasonable price. I also want an nvidia Jetson. But get this, in the US they cost under 200 dollars (I think as low as 170), in the UK they are £200 or about 330 dollars. I can't afford that either. GPU on the Tegra K1 is meant to come out to about NVidia GT640 performance, in a desktop machine that might not be much, but considering the K1 is an ARM processor for phones and tablets I think that's phenomenal.
I wouldn't say poorly made or over priced they are what they are often more refined and better at top end performance than an AMD alternative. However you could spend a good bit less and get better perfromance on AMD for what you could have spent on an Nvidia card, they are great cards other wise. GPU's don't differ very much reliability wise (minus factory defects) I mean they're basically all the same hardware wise, minus the cooler which alot of the time is made by other companies such as ASUS or GIGABYTE and has nothing to do with AMD or Nvidia
The ghost car "bug" is because people are forcing an invalid AA method from their GPU drivers. Simple PEBCaC. nVidia doesn't have it because their drivers lie to you about actually enabling the AA.
Typical AMD vs NVIDIA flame-war going on Never had problems with AMD, had HD 5770, 7690m, 2x 7770, now one 7970 Vapor-X, and not a single problem so far.. Their CPU's on the other hand.. Had an FX 8 core once and sold it in the first week and got my 4670k, I'll never regret that.. Though I am upgrading to a STRIX GTX970 in the weeks to come. #yolo
I'm waiting for the new AMD series of cards to compare, though I'll probably skip this new series as well, I don't need an upgrade right now.
As a owner of a GTX 980 upgraded from Sli GTX 680's the performance is what I would expect amazing and at stock clocks it's on par or better than the GTX 780Ti but if you own a 780 ti now I wouldn't upgrade unless you could get a good price for your card.
I got my 980 installed yesterday. The best feature is that you can set the LEDs on the reference cooler to flash with the current audio levels. Oh, and uh, the performance is pretty good too.
Give it to me, buy 980. Problem solved. The STRIX is a nice card. I've had the 285 right in front of me and it looks cool, but it feels solid and heavy too. IIRC the 970 STRIX has one 8 pin instead of 2x6 so you can SLI more. Also, give me the 7970 and I'll pay shipping (maybe cheaper for me to buy one in the US though) I'll CF on one 550w PSU and blow everything up. I tried to do that on my PNY aftermarket card and the only LED that flashed was the diagnostics light. Don't know why, seems like it would be obvious that it shouldn't.
