Yeah but it would be cool for specific brands to have chimes, like Gavril could have a GM-like chime. Also chimes aren’t something that you can activate like a horn so I feel like changing them wouldn’t really work. But who knows, we don’t even know if we’re getting chimes at all

No I mean just the sheer amount of different horn options in the parts selector. It would also be cool to have the chime play when the door is open while the cars is in ON (not when it’s in ACC)

Right but then they would have to add openable doors to all cars (which I hope happens, that would be awesome) so maybe in a future update

imagine that when the ignition is turned off, the theft protection is triggered and it turns off the power and fuel supply, although for some reason the horn is working and the handbrake indicator is on (I think in reality this can also be done), the developers themselves wrote that this is a unique function of beamng machines

Good job on the ignition system:) I especially like the startup screens and the effect of temperature on the startup time. The fact that the radiators of the new cars on the back turn on when you press v is so cool as well, because you do not only see it but can also hear them :)

Really the only thing that isn't absolutely amazing is the temp and fuel gauges. Instead of immediately teleporting from empty to full they should slowly rise up

Are there any plans for each vehicle to have their own starter sound? To me thry all sound like some heavy American V8 starter motor even on a Piccolina.

    They do,
    Mine do, at least
Piccolina sounds like a small European engine, so…

The new ignition system is great! However maybe it could be made even better for wheel users by disabling power steering when the engine/ignition is off, not sure how easy it is to implement tho, ETS2 does this as an example
another super small detail is that cars usually let you put the hazards on even if the ignition is off, not sure if it was overlooked or it's just not worth the hassle to implement it
Overall I still think it's a major improvement! Great job :D

It's very possible that changing this would literally be like changing a 0 to a 1. But yes devs, this would be realistic, specifically for safety reasons, like when you're pulled over with the vehicle off. The turn signals are typically not enabled however. In nearly every vehicle I've ever been in, (albeit only US, not sure about other countries) you can turn on the headlights as well.

this is kinda off topic, but would it be possible to have a 'car alarm' type thing? like a separate key binding from the hazards, where the hazards flash and the horn blares at the same time?

yeah it all depends on how it's laid out on the lua code
on my cars at least, if you turn the headlights on after shutting the car off you'll get an audible warning, but if the lights were on and you shut the car off they just turn off as well
about the turn signals, when the car is off in my experience they turn on the "parking lights", just like this:

Prime example of the chimes is this. Would love to see it happen, if possible!

My biggest pet peeve with both the old and the new ignition systems is that if you interrupt the starting process by say not holding the key enough, the vehicle will go back to On position but you won't be able to bump start the vehicle, you need to start the engine normally once and turn the ignition off manually or stall it before you can do the bump starting once again.

Bump starting the vehicle relies on your chosen behavior of the clutch. If you have the clutch assistant turned on in the gameplay tab of the settings menu, then a jumpstart will never be possible. If you turn that off, a bump start should be 100% possible.

You misunderstood me. The bump starting goes well, when the clutch is dumped, engine suddenly revs up as expected but it behaves as if the ignition is off and won't respond to throttle.

You can try it yourself to see what I mean.
Spawn a manual car, turn on the ignition, accelerate the car with node grabber, put it into gear and dump the clutch -> engine starts as expected.
Spawn a manual car, hold the ignition key but let go of it before the engine starts, accelerate the car with node grabber, put it into gear and dump the clutch -> engine revs up but won't respond to throttle.
