Now with the added Johnson Valley, it highlights the limitations of the soft terrain physics in BeamNG, especially how shallow these terrain types are in the game. I can still drive a 2WD sedan easily in the sand dunes. This absolutely wouldn't be possible in real life. You'd sink in the sand immediately as you apply throttle. Same goes for the mud in places like the Jungle Rock island. The mud is always shallow, never deep enough to really get stuck.

Aye, we need more time to do that correctly :)

Thanks. At least it's on your radar / TODO list. That's good enough for me for now. :)

Having said that, would it be possible now to make the sand outside of the trails deeper? This way vehicles with low clearance would properly get stuck, and even the offroad vehicles would have an incentive to stay on the trails to maintain speed.

Well, this resulted in a long discussion internally and we reworked some parts for this hotfix in a few hours hopefully :)

Thanks again and i hope the new behavior is a bit better

Oh boy! I can’t wait to for my friend to get stuck with a Dunekicker on JRI in multiseat, then drive by in a Wydra, laughing.

Which reminds me, will multiseat ever be revisited? The scenarios, as far as I can tell, are broken, and the camera occasionally goes crazy. Will it ever get spliscreen?

Thank you, that's a lot better! I'm glad my feedback contributed to a good discussion within your team and a good change for the game. If you ask me, I think the off-trail sand could be even deeper and provide more resistance. It would be even better if sinking in the sand was proportional to tire width and spin, but I understand that would be a bigger change, but a very welcome one :).

While the sand depth could still use some tweaking, the bigger problem I see is that sand doesn't provide enough drag for its depth. I have some real-life experience driving in sand and the slowdown effect seems greater in real life than in the game. I assume this is something devs can tweak now with some parameters without additional changes needed.

Great to see the devs discuss some qualified feedback this quickly!
