I mean this isn't the first time Tdev has hinted at an excavator being implemented, not to say its impossible and they probably have looked into it and started working on it at one time or another but frankly deformable terrain to this degree seems unlikely to me given how far into development we are and how this would effect the game currently.

I think TDev might just be being TDev there lol

Excavators would be a good way to show off the hydraulic system, and if tracks don't cooperate they could just make a rubber tire excavator or just slap the superstructure on a T65 (reference the Gradall Discovery machines). Still, this is so far out of left field and I feel there's better options to show off hydraulics right now...

As for deformable terrain, he has said in the past he wants to see it in game some day. Some members of the community have researched it, and I'm sure the team has as well. But I just don't see it happening near term, especially to the extent where an excavator could be "useful"

I think that they must be working on a lot of secret vehicles in the background like we have seen with the 5 new vehicles added in 0.27. So it's quite likely that they have at least 1 WIP unreleased tracked vehicle, like they kept the Bluebuck and the Wendover in an unfinished state for years, and that could also have been the case for some of the 0.27 vehicles.

That's could be really cool to have something like that for all vehicles.

The forbidden Dacia, reminds me of what Hammond did in that one TGT special with his Focus o_Oo_O
Not sure if they'd implement something like that though, probably another dedicated offroad vehicle. Would be nice to see though.
(What about a half track? ;))

Yes for sure if they add track it's for a special vehicle, but that could be fun to drive the hopper with that.

If we get tracks, I assume the first vehicle we would get now is this:

I don't think the Wydra has enough torque for tracks, unless they figured out a system to make ultra lightweight ones

Well on low range it might work, if not it would need either extremely light tracks (no metal) or a version with more hp (better engine)
Turning with no speed might be a real problem tho
