We all know that the "future" of vehicles is electric. And I know that Beam is a quite realistic game that takes place in the current day. So my question is this: if the world goes electric, will BeamNG go electric, too?
Most likely there will be more EVs ( :skull: ), but they will still add ICE cars, with classics and old cars and stuff.
You can see a recent shift towards modern vehicles in BeamNG, when the first vehicle drafts for BeamNG where made, the only modern car (back when it was 2014) was the Sunburst, which had pretty well every other car planned for the game beaten by about a decade in age. It was most certainly leaning to be focused on the late 2000s with a large chunk of the vehicles consisting of American style vehicles fitting on the streets of the US around 2010. Only recently (past few years) have we seen this truly divulge as the developers began adding a plethora of newer model cars to try and combat the decade development period where the cars commonplace in 2010 became rare oddities on the road. Vehicles such as the Moohawk, Wendover, LeGran, Pessima, Roamer, D Series, Hopper, etc. all fit perfectly well in 2010 set gameplay, however, a decade later with the average age of vehicles on the road being about 12 years old, even the newest Pessima in game would struggle to not seem like an oddity on the roads. In all, the narrative surrounding the era BeamNG was designed to be played in has changed drastically to the modern era, and with it, so have the vehicles. If BeamNG has been miraculously and inexplicably created and finished in the 2013-2016 era, without any plan changes, we would most certainly not see vehicles such as the Scintilla, SBR4, Vivace, Bastion, etc. both due to the time period and the lack of planning for these vehicles. In all, the game development evolves much like the real world, many more vehicles in game are getting electric platforms mirroring real life developments, and this will definitely continue for maybe well into another decade, when more vehicles produced will likely be full electric vehicles reflecting the future era.
Will love to see some mixture . Pre war cars and some new dedicated EV. Inline the ice based EVs in bean. Something like Tesla or Mercedes eqe or eqs type of vehicle. Also I'd we get a Morden pick up truck or ute here in Australia. I'll love to see ice and ev. Like the new f150 ev. While something like the rivain witch is a dedicated EV pick up. I think a ev and ice pick up on same platform is better suited for pick ups. But I'll love a dedicated EV platform for suv/sedan with no ice option.
I don't think anyone really knows. The immediate future appears to be electric, but there are a number of studies that say, even if EVs are better developed, they won't be sustainable forever, and we'll need different options.
Nukes, anyone? Fossil fuel ICE aren't indefinitely sustainable either, but there have been some interesting (and very recent) developments from Cummins in regards to hydrogen and even hydrogen/diesel hybrid engines with the possibility of retrofitting existing engines. Oil companies have a solid grasp on government policies around the world, but people are realizing our current rate of air pollution and man-made climate change is a serious problem with irreversible consequences, changes have to be made soon.
electric cars are the worst thing to ever exist. i want sound on my car. not a sound of a dying cat (charger moment
personally, I think we're going to hit a wall kind of for EV cars, the hype was always about tesla, but now tesla is dying (yes yes big stock price, there are a lot of companies with high stock prices that shouldn't) Germany (don't live there I'm hearing this on the news) is rejecting the eu ev ban, London, where I live, has seen a massive push against evs and ulez as the price of electric skyrockets, the us ain't bout to give up oil that quickly, evs aren't going away, that's for damm sure but people are going to realize that just like the diesel scheme in the UK back in the late 2000s and early 2010s that a big government scheme to save the environment just ended in more damage to it, literally, all my family members have hybrids, and those batteries on those cars are cooked, so in a car that is solely battery powered isn't going to be good. EVs will still have a place in the world, city driving and just vehicles to go to the shop will be the main focus, but to literally anyone who doesn't live in the inner city, its hard to justify, tradespeople have been ripped through the bum for ev vans, taxis like hybrids, but most of them do plenty of miles in a day so are not suitable for full EVs, first responders don't need long uptimes especially police which unlike fire or ambulances aren't typically at the station, fire (from someone who is less than 200m from a fire station) is still constantly going out, and i don't think ambulances want any more downtime, truckers may want ev lorries since the UK is smaller and might not require as many miles as us truckers, but still probably need a little downtime, plus the availability of working, fast charges are just not it, 10,20, 30 minutes out of your day is just mega inconvenient, i mean people who are driving 2008 corsas arent going to be able to afford a new £15k+ car. i don't hate electricity, i do like not hearing that shithead from 3 postcodes down blast his golf at 3 am, but evs being forced down my throat is just stupid, hydrogen/synthetic fuels will hopefully squash the trend of EVs, that thats what it is a trend, just like diesel people are going to find a screw in their heads and fight back, infact people including myself have been at protests to stop the no petrol cars by 2035 scheme because their just isn't enough time, money or even reason in a cost of living crisis, look at lpg, dead look at diesel, other than heavy vehicles (and german cars) dead, evs will probably be on the same block at some point, is this a rant, yes do my points seem cohesive, not really, i just like my vroom vroom cars
I feel like EVs just aren't ready to be real things. What is frightening is that not only people, but huge businesses are ignoring this entirely.
in 5 years when they need to sell their vans, they'll be wondering why it's with so little since the battery is cooked, but thank god most independent, small, and medium tradies and businesses in the UK know that evs are shite (for there line of work) and chose the ice options
ICEs swapped into EVs: :vomit: EVs being V8-swapped:  Tbh I'm glad that most people here take ICE over EVS any day any moment. EVs are just basically trying to make you rely everything happy by various designed malfunctions gadgets.
I am probably making an old joke with this... but aren't all videogame cars electric since your computer consumes power just to run beamng.drive?
