Ive started to add GroundCover to my map and started off by copy\pasting the billboardUVs section in the Inspector window from a default map in order to get the exact grass\flower I want to use. Ive also just copied the entire vegetation items.level.json from another level to make it faster. Some of the groundcovers like "groundcover_sping" or "wcu_groundcover" have a dozen different grasses and flowers in one texture file, so without copying from other maps its a huge hassle to deal with any of those. I would love to have an easier way to do it from within the WorldEditor.

I noticed in 0.27.2 the changelog says "added GroundCover UV Tool" but I cant seem to find it. I also noticed in a four year old post on the forums there was a UV Editor window (picture below) So it seems like what I want to do is possible and has been for quite a while. I just have no idea where to find those tools.

Can anyone tell me where in the WorldEditor I can find either one of these tools? Thanks.

You have to first select a ground cover object from the scene tree.
Then you can click the small rectangle button of the billboardUVs field in Inspector (found in one of the Types fields array elements).

I noticed that button in that picture I added in the first post too. But unfortunately I don't see that button you highlighted in my World Editor. I am on 0.27.2 I have tried View>Layouts>Revert To Factory Settings as well as Edit>Editor Preferences...>Reset All to Defaults. I have also made sure to try it in Safe Mode, as well as not using any mods. I have been playing with the editor since 0.25 and have not noticed the button in the billboardUVs section in any version of the game since then.

I also noticed I dont have that bike icon or trash icon on the top bar in your picture either, is it possible the public version of the World Editor isnt getting all of the intended updates? Or there is a setting I need to enable? Or can you think of what else could I try to get it to show up? Below is a screenshot of the game running in safe mode where you can see that the button is missing and also see the game version as well as the editor version.

    Thanks.

I also had a friend check for me and they are also missing that button in the BillboardUVs line. And while I was waiting for him to get back to me I also did a fresh install (uninstalled, deleted the entire userdata folder, then reinstalled) and that button was also still missing for me after that. Both of us have the latest version available using Steam. So it seems that the UV Editor tool is not currently included in the public release of the WorldEditor. Or perhaps by default there is a setting that is hiding the button from showing up?

The feature might be in a hotfix after your version, dont know, you can check if after the new hotfix/release to come. The bike icon is just a dev test button.

Its possible that I havent gotten the hotfix for it, but I do have the latest version available through Steam updates. I have also asked 3 more people to check and no one has that button in the BillboardUVs line. I hope to see it soon. I feel its a bug since it was announced with 0.27.0 and I have had 3 or more patches\hotfixes since then without seeing that button appear.

Regardless, thank you for taking your time to reply. If possible could you please pass this on as a bug report. Thank you.

If its in the editor now here, dont worry, it will be there too, if the next major release wont show it up, then we can check your version of a specific Lua script file.

Just as a check, you can attach the file: /lua/ge/extensions/editor/inspector.lua so I can check it

Do you have plans to implement 3D groundcover at some point, or is it impossible with this game engine?

Thank you for any work you did to get the BillboardsUV tool implemented in 0.28 Its there now and works great. It made using my custom grass textures so much easier - before I just gave up trying to find the exact UV location.
    --- Post updated ---
Unless I misunderstood what you meant by 3D groundcover; Using the "shapeFilename" line (right under the BillboardUVs line) to select a DAE\mesh for the groundcover model - allows you to make the grass a 3D model instead of the normal flat grass that moves with the camera.

Thanks, that actually somewhat works. I never knew. @DoullPepper mentioned they were working on it about a year go, and that there were some difficulties with it. Here's grass billboard replaced with the ancient juniper.dae. Lods are a bit messed up:

Yeah im not sure whats up with the LODs. I havent worked much with my own custom models, but I have noticed some stuff that ive used models for on the groundcover either have a decent LOD distance while others are blurry about 10 meters out. Maybe its something baked into the actual model? No need to go out of your way to update here, since I dont really do much with groundcover models, but if you happen to figure something out Id be interested in hearing about it. Thanks and good luck.
