Spent the last few hours working on a little something as much as i love what is available, i find the engine options.... lacking... so i wanted to the 2.0 covet engine, but i ended up doing them all lmao. from 1.3 to 2.0L, all options are available. so far ive got a few minor things to fix. i tried to make the model fit properly. but an engine bay line passes thru the exhaust. but its also my first time doing a mod of a mod. so im wondering, can i just drop this here once im done? or is another thread preferred? and while playing with this car, ive realized how small this car is. its almost smaller then the piccolina. Such an insane lovely little car. ive instantly fallen in love with this little thing. thanks again LJ for making this beautiful little vehicle. its a blast to drive!
You can just drop it in this thread if you like, or upload to the repo, though i don't know the rules around mods of real cars there
Very good mod but the Jbeam is visibly rushed. List of issues I found so far: For whatever reason the rear wheels are structural parts of the leaf spring structures, meaning that when one breaks off the whole suspension becomes unstable, you should absolutely never do this kind of stuff when using torsionbars. (And those beams don't even have breakGroups so they can just break on their own and the leaf springs will collapse without the wheels even breaking off.) Some parts of the leaf springs are also not secured properly and you can clearly see them wobbling around. Support beams are weirdly set up between the body and the frame making it really hard to detach the 2 parts even after all the mounts break. The openable fuel cap was an odd choice and it's proving to be problematic, it seems that the breakGroup setup as well as the coupler setup are jank on it, causing issues with the part falling off. (By that I mean it's physically impossible to break it off fully.) Similar problems are with the trunk and doors but less noticable. There are leaking triangle properties all over the place, after breaking certain parts almost the whole car loses collision. All the glass brittle beams are very weird especially noticable on the backlight, sometimes you can bend the doors, roof etc. a lot without any glass breaking, but sometimes it breaks by itself for seemingly no reason. Left door glass nodes are mapped to the right door flexbody which causes really messed up deformation of door frames and spikes. Latches are ultra jank, trying to rip off a door causes spiking of quarter panels because the latch node gets yeeted to the other side of the pillar which is NEVER supposed to happen, there should be torsionbars to prevent it but they appear to be missing completely on the entire body. They also seem asymmetrical. There is stretching when the engine detaches from the body. It's also attached too strongly to it compared to vanilla cars. Cant reproduce this reliably but sometimes the driveshaft doesn't break when it clearly should because the frame is on such a twisted angle. But I really like the way it's animated, with the joint being a separate prop attached to the gearbox only so it flexes properly, it should be a thing on vanilla cars! The console screams lots of errors: missing nodes, duplicate beams, degenerate triangles... (Also unrelated to Jbeam, missing and duplicate materials + wrong dds compression on some textures) Front suspension has some excessive stress, seemingly to do with the weird precompression of the front arms. Sometimes the trunk opens too much and ends up on the other side and then it's impossible to close it, it needs limiters. Taillights clip with the body and bumpers a bit, not enough to pop out but enough to cause excessive forces. Adding the patrol badge makes it so the front bumper can get stuck in the grille The nudge bar has no Jbeam at all, it's just part of the frame. Similarly the hood pins, they do nothing. Seats are attached to the body in a super weird way, unlike in vanilla cars, if you crush the roof they can end up clipping through the floor, and if you pull them instead of stretching themselves the connection of the seats with the floor stretches, like it used to do with the Gavril Vertex when you tried to pull the dummy out of the car before the seatbelt was breakable Rear spoiler is part of the trunk group despite having its own Jbeam. Meanwhile the roof one doesn't even have Jbeam to begin with. Seems like for some reason the car catches on fire easier and burns more than other cars. A few times I caought it on fire by hitting the roof somehow, but I can't reproduce it consistently. Might be worth investigating what causes it. So yeah visually this is an outstanding mod but Jbeam-wise it's not polished. Honestly idk how you even missed some of these issues since they are already apparent after 1 rollover or a similar thing... Don't get me wrong though, it's visible that you knew what you were doing but just missed some things when playtesting.
with the engine swap, i ended up doing all the covet engines, and next i added the 6th gear race transmission. 200+km/h with this smol car... it kept flipping. in great need of downforce. and so one thing leads to another... now i present... hillclimb silvia! a corner in ecusa i could barely manage to take at 120, i can now happily take at 180 km/h this hillclimb kit made the silvia very happy. but yeah, this "one thing leads to another" of mine also keeps adding other plans for the silvia... which im considering doing a repo release if possible. i keep adding stuff lol. i never planned to do any of this so who knows what ideas will pop up i also wanna wait for an update first. some things im sure are gonna change and i would hate to release something just for it to be broken the next week. but i could drop the mod here in the meantime if anyone is really interested. one thing is for sure, this car is a BLAST to drive. the etk update dropped yet this is the only thing ive been able to play with lol.
something that i did not think was possible and i want, but now im realizing how badly i want it. repo release hopefully! (soon?)
bah like i said, i could drop the mod here in the meantime if anyone is interested. its not perfect, materials wise for now you need to spawn the covet because its using its materials lol. its hacky for the moment. will be fixed if i do that repo release. its just a quick forum release for the moment. hope yall enjoy anyways but its got a cut hood, all covet engines +6 gear race trans , and the big wang and big lip hillclimb kit for now.
I can report that the steering still acts weirdly: the force increases until about 270° turn on steering wheel, then it get´s lighter to turn, then stronger again.
Very well done made real life car mod! This is so much better then most mods that came from sites such as Modland and World Of Mods as they are just complete garbage meshslaps that are just lazily made! I'm really hoping that I can see more mods that are usually high quality like dev quality really soon such as some more lore/real life (as long they are completely no meshslap mod) car mods. More should be coming whether they are free/paid! LJ74 deserves to be part of the BeamNG.drive development team and so does LucasBE and Theo and Finn!
