The title says it. Since the latest update, all custom car configs seem to be broken. The car spawns, but there's no way to control it.

Is that a known issue with the 0.28 update?

Yes. Seems all mods are broken for many people since the 0.27 to 0.28 update. Would be great to know what files need updating to the mod. I don't know why they don't just tell us instead of letting us figure it out individually, it's nonsense.

Do you seriously expect the devs to check every single mod in existence and provide a fix for all the broken ones??? This is not their job at all, it's the responsibility of mod makers to fix their mods. And it can sometimes take months to fix the issues, it's not as easy as just copy+pasting some files.

Modders fixing their mods is one thing. But it's another thing entirely when nobody knows what to fix when the update rolls around and what is broken because the documentation is lacking, is so terribly fragmented and outdated in the first place.

...Nothing about what you just said makes any sense. "Nobody knows what to fix" when the issues are clearly visible to anyone????? The documentation has nothing to do with this either, what were you thinking when writing this lol

There's a lot of broken mods right now. They're not being fixed because nobody knows how to fix them, it's terrible. Can you read?

This is wrong. The update hasn't actually introduced anything drastically new but just brought niche features like openable doors to more cars. A lot of mod cars already had openable doors before which proves that modders don't need any documentation to figure it out, so they can easily fix mods that got broken due to the addition of openable doors. Same thing with interior collision. The lack of documentation has never really bothered the more experienced modders that much. There are several reasons why they are not fixing the mods as fast as you want them to:
    • We are just after Easter and a lot of modders were definitely busy with real life for the past couple of weeks so they likely had almost zero time to work on their mods, speaking from experience
    • It takes time in general to fix some of the larger mods, especially with the amount of changes we got to almost all vanilla vehicles in this update, it doesn't mean that modders don't know how to fix stuff but they are just taking a long time
    • Some modders never even care if their mods break and won't bother fixing them. It's not because they don't know how to but because they are lazy.

Yeah maybe it doesn't bother you, but the lack of documentation bothers me for sure. That's my complaint.

It bothers me too because it makes it way harder for beginners. But this is still unrelated to your point. If someone already managed to make a mod without it, and nothing major changed about making mods, they should know how to fix it.

Yeah it's difficult for beginners too.

In my case For example, I want to try to take an automation car from 0.28 and try to port it to BeamNG version 0.23 but I can't do that due to this lack of documentation. If everything were correctly documented, it would be easy for me to do something weird like this.

Automation and BeamNG have an interesting relationship that I want to continue with. But the documentation is lacking if you're trying to do some weird things like this easily, you simply cannot.

I don't think they should document deprecated stuff from older updates... A waste of effort when they could document the stuff we actually need, like powertrain

If everything were already documented correctly to begin with, I wouldn't be needing to make a complaint about that. Don't you see?

It just seems like they don't have enough people in their team to keep the documentation up to date with everything, let alone adding the missing things. The docs only get small changes with every update. You can say they could hire new people to write the documentation but those people would first need to learn everything about the game's physics and get some experience in making vehicles before they are ready to write documentation.

For whatever reason, the documentation is still inadequate. To me this just looks bad on the BeamNG team, it's also just adding to the existing lack of transparency issue that some people have noted.

Tbh we should be glad to have any sort of documentation at all, a lot of other games have none. And not much of it is actually outdated, there are just many missing things. I wouldn't say it shows the company in a bad light.

Personally I don't agree on any of that, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion... If this were 2019 maybe I'd have agreed, but times change friend.

Nobody demands what you claim. But when a title's success is so heavily connected to it's modding community a responsible developer would take that into account with every single update, making sure that as many mods as possible continue working and if a big change in the inner workings of the game might destroy a large number of mods, this should be communicated more specifically than the general "all mods can break with any update, live with it", that's been done so far.

as someone who mods from time to time, used to a lot more, it's not that bad. we have the console, which tells us any files that are having issues, and typically most behaviours are already identifiable. that's just my experience though.
the devs have always put in a huge effort to keep mod compatibility, but unfortunately to move forward with the game things have to be changed and be dropped, things are destined to break, sometimes in smaller groups and sometimes in larger. we can't expect things like materials.cs, the old world editor to stick forever, we have to move on.

They would have to do it in every single update and some smaller hotfixes too if that was the case. The game is constantly in progress so things will break every time.

Yesterday I gave up, decided to wipe the game and install from scratch.
