Since nobody else did, here's the post I was referring to. It explains our pov in detail and stands exactly the same these days. (especially the last paragaph) https://www.beamng.com/threads/whats-the-devs-reaction-on-the-multiplayer-mod.67862/#post-1111444
Believe what you want then. but the hostility from you isn't appreciated considering you specifically asked for a response. Now I've stated my views now in detail, that's all I've got to say about it. It's certainly upto other people to decide for themselves on what they like and don't like to believe. Though this being the fan forum for said game itself, I shouldn't be surprised on the reception, it's sure to upset many fanboys.
I didn't mean any hostility, if you interpreted my message as such then I'm sorry. I didn't ask for a response specifically either. The way you are seeing the situation is that me and some other people here are fanboys and will defend everything the devs do, but I see it the other way round, you seem to only criticise whatever they do and wildly interpret various things they do and say, forming unbelievable theories...
I'm a speculator. That's in my nature. There's plenty of people who only want to sing praise for the game, and you can find it just about anywhere on this forum. I don't feel a need to sing the same praise, maybe that makes me look negative on here, but it doesn't bother me too much. If games were never criticized, they'd all look the same. (That's a narrow semantics arguement )Different strokes.
So basically, you're saying that the developers who work(and have worked) at beamng GMBH are greedy, lazy, and steal source code from the community. Could you keep your criticism respectful? calling people names isn't gonna help anyone(and also makes it not constructive). About the final question, as TDK said, there is a "list" that the development team has on which they prioritize certain aspects of the game(music being at the bottom). My guess is, multiplayer is at the lower part of the "list".
You do know in that very same thread, someone else chimed in to correct him (a developer). Rigs Of Rods has smooth multiplayer and has for a number of years now. So what's the next excuse then? https://www.beamng.com/threads/whats-the-devs-reaction-on-the-multiplayer-mod.67862/#post-1111582
I find it less than likely that the multiplayer system from RoR can just be ported over without major changes or a complete rewrite. Just because it works in a similar game doesn’t mean it’ll work in a SIGNIFICANTLY more advanced game, especially when the devs strive for perfection instead of something that works, whether it works well or not. It needs to work as well as possible, otherwise it’s not worth delivering to their customers.
I'm highlighting that (and if you go see his post with your own eyes) RoR has excellent multiplayer, which is "the original" game compared to "the sequel", BeamNG, yet BeamNG still does not have any first-party multiplayer, for whatever reason. It's been 10 years, hello! It does not take 10 years in this industry to come up with a possible solution to even the most complex of problems. You'd be thrown out. Many people are ready to believe such blatant fanboy talk around this forum, that old lie of "RoR multiplayer is terrible and always will be, beamNG is so much better in all areas" That's simply not the case anymore. Do I like both BeamNG and RoR? Yes, do I think BeamNG can do better? YES. A reason BeamNG doesn't have officially implemented multiplayer is because it has no intimidating competitor, no true rival, to push it's developers to do something a little more proactive with their software. There's little incentive to push the boundaries when there's no competition. No threats? Happy coasting forever. Threats? Get ready for awesome updates. And if you're still not convinced (which is likely the case for the overwhelming majority of this forum), why did they add in unwanted features like a Track builder, that nobody cared about at all? Nobody asked for this. Nobody cared that it was added, in fact in it's place could've been much better content that directly improved upon the existing game.
You're complaining about faboyism, yet all you do is post slightly obfuscated statements of "the devs suck and are lazy because they don't do what I want them to do". I'm fine with that if you feel that way, but don't expect useful conversations to come out of this sort of posting. I tried to explain you why we don't have a multiplayer at this point and you are free to believe me or not, but if you're not interested in actual answers from the people you are complaining about, you might want to use a different platform. Just because you don't feel like it's cool or a good addition to the game, what gives you the right to speak for all of our users?
Rockstar proceeding to recycle GTA V story assets and cookie-cutter mission layouts for 10 years, absolutely raking in cash, all while glaring bugs remain completely unadressed, to a point where some random guy found one bug that when fixed, cut loading times by more than half
If I don't expect useful conversation? then what should I expect and why should I care if my expectations are not met? To be fair, I could've started my comment chain here like you want me to.. or said exactly what you presume I mean to say. I could just as easily outright say "devs suck, worst game ever, rant over" Anyone can say that, and I'll say that when there's nothing more to say. But when there's more to say and unpack then that's not my style, nor do I believe it to be true. I prefer then to dabble in nuance of the grey and extend the conversation for as long as possible, then let the few lurkers decide for themselves if they truly outright reject the notion that such a concept exists outside or inside of this forum. That's indeed a lot of back-and-forth conversation. I'm just guessing here. I don't think anybody cared when it got added to the game and have yet to see it hailed as the greatest or even a good feature. Sure this feature has it's uses to some NOW, but when it was rolled out, was it even a warm reception? compared to what people were actually asking for over on the steam update tabs(pages)? and does it really benefit say the core experience compared to other updates that introduced new features?
Guys, can we just agree that G-Farce is the new fivedollarlamp, and that we are most likely not going to get multiplayer anytime soon?
I'm not sure about Track Builder, every time it gets broken we get some people begging the devs to fix it as soon as possible. Light Runner on the other hand.. Who even uses that, it gets no updates, the skins for it either get removed or not get updated when the cars get remastered, and I don't think it serves a purpose other than to look cool, subjectively. The biggest impact I've seen it have on the community is that one fan fiction about the game was set in the Glow City lol.
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but track builder is awesome, definitely one of my favorite things in the game. I've liked it ever since its release. With enough practice you can make quite detailed race tracks.
