I am now [REDACTED] an older version of beamng because you have broke the one mechanic i loved this game for, this game along with forza 5 work flawlessly with a controller clutch and i do not have the space for a sim setup. now any fast car is undrivable without clutch assist, sure its better for actual stick shifts, but not controller. make it a setting, let me downgrade, or refund the game. until then ill be playing my Caribbean variation of the game.
the way i played was no clutch assist, button bind on controller, now i cannot drive fast for shit unless i have clutch assist, but clutch assist is boring and takes away a lot of the fun. this ruins a large portion of the experience for me because gear and clutch control on controller was the best on this game, now id rather play need for speed most wanted with just no clutch at all. --- Post updated --- so basically unless they fix it my solutions are: $400 wheel and shifter+pedals, different game, or payrite an older version of this game. all would be avoided if they just listened to the community instead of insisting its better and telling us to f off. ive never been on these forums before and it probably shows, but i cannot refund the game and it currently does not play the way i enjoyed when i bought it. so sorry i feel entitled to play the game i bought. --- Post updated --- is it a known issue? sure but i want it to be MORE KNOWN so i can play the game I PURCHASED AND HAVE PLAYED FOR 1200+ HOURS
Yeah if you played for 1200 hours you got your moneys worth out of the game. That's less than 3 cents an hour it's not like you paid 100 dollars and it grenaded itself the second you booted it up. Just use clutch assist or don't even enable having to use the clutch if its such a hassle for you.
Honestly, it's a bit annoying, but you're exaggerating massively. I got used to the changes (also a controller player) within a couple of weeks.
is it a known issue? will i have some snobby mod not like my attitude and delete this? probably, but i dont give a fuck cause yall got no power, im reaching out to a brick wall at but i literally bought the game for the manual clutch with no assist, gives me so much control and its a fun challenge trying not to stall rock crawling or downshifting fast coming into a corner, but all the solutions online suggest "deal with it" or "use clutch assist" like okay thats a non- solution because thats not the problem, i didnt like no clutch and clutch assist before and i dont like it now, i just want the previous responsiveness.
bro literally i can shift fine in all cars, but if i have 5 seconds to downshift 3 gears going into a corner, its not possible without grinding, i just have to go significantly slower which is very aggrivating when i feel like im looking at the 100% engaged meter and see the 4 indicating the gear and let go but it just grinds like ????????? not like that in my real car just sayin. --- Post updated --- i would like to clarify ive waited a month not playing to see if it will be fixed but i guess not so im just gonna go back to 0.27 the only way beamng developers know i can no longer will my mods be broken or my settings be changed.
The point of grinding is to simulate that in no flippin way will you be able to downshift 3 gears down going fast into a corner in a normal car without grinding the gear because you're holding the clutch whilst braking. I'm not trying to be mean but maybe you can't handle the realism, or you're a bad driver. If neither of those, just switch your game version as you said and quit complaining, this ain't leading anywhere
i would like to clarify ive waited a month not playing to see if it will be fixed but i guess not so im just gonna go back to 0.27 the only way beamng developers know i can ; im just referring to engine braking into a corner, the issue is it seems the game will say the clutch is pressed 100% but it actually has a delay getting there so my button press means im now waiting for a clutch to engage that should already be slammed down. it would be such an easy quality of life fix for controller players. and its not my driving i daily a 6 speed and i have no issues rev matching when down shifting, as far as i know if my clutch pedal is to the floor im free to choose whatever gear i want, and when im engaged in that gear i should be allowed to let go of the clutch, not wait 2 seconds to make sure its really in there and then pray it doesnt grind while also focusing on a corner coming up ahead.
Try Advanced Steering if that doesn't work i don't know how to fix it, and i won't bother either since it's not my job
the new clutch logic was never a issue for me. like honestly, if you can't control the clutch like a real car, then either use clutch assist, or stick with sequential
" oh no the devs won't cater for me and me only and I won't spend a bit of time getting used to new things like everyone else does "
Turn on the clutch assist. You can still use the clutch manually, but it will help you in a way it will hold the clutch till shift is actually finished. Before there was a bug in the gearbox logic resulting in game not letting the clutch out when player actually did it if shift was already started. Now that has been fixed, so you either have to hold the clutch for whole duration of the shift like in actual car, or push your no assist pride aside and turn on clutch assist
From what I understand most people who complain about this change have a problem with the duration of the shift being too long. Maybe it could be adjustable, or it could be shorter on more sporty transmission, because irl it mostly depends on how fast you can shift physically, some people are better at it than others, and it's not replicable on keyboard or controller.
oh it is also limited by transmission design, in fact it should also vary per specific gear due to rotational speeds, inertia and all that in case of car I daily for example, downshifting into 1st even with brand new syncros (killed the trans few weeks ago) takes a lot of rev matching or A LOT of force to engage and shifting into 2nd from 1st also takes much longer to complete without grinding than for example 3rd-4th. In any case, we are in process of re-doing manuals pretty much https://www.beamng.com/threads/development-media.24313/page-7#post-1576960
I completely forgot about that old teaser lol, I guess that will be better than just hardcoding a delay value
On modern non-sporty cars with a manual trans the flywheel is just too heavy for fast shifting. This is especially notable at low gears (1-2, 2-3). If you want to shift smooth to the next gear, you have to wait for a brief period for the engine rpm to drop to the rpm of the transmission. Though you can still shift as fast as you want, but it will be jerky and your clutch will hate you
