Re: General discussion chat Just read an article about the new retina imac, it has a 5K display, a radeon R9 290X, i5 (naturally apple doesnt tell us WHAT i5), and 8gb of ram, and thats the base model, it costs about the same as a 5k display, so this may be the first apple pc to have a realistic price in quite a while Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping - - - Updated - - - DARNIT, i just found a really nice excursion on craigslist, sadly its $21,000 over my $1500 budget :/

Re: General discussion chat IIRC the base model still isn't at 5k, but 1440p. You have to upgrade the GPU to get a 5k capable one with the custom display generator (most aren't good for anything over 4k) and it's actually a m295x. I don't know the silicon it's based off of. The display tech is sweet though.

All power windows work, but only at the controls at the drivers seat. You can't move any door's window with the control on the door besides the driver's window. Suspect the window lock switch may have gone bad. All power locks work, too. AC blows cold, and heat blows hot. It's a pretty nice car, just dirty as hell. The only notable problems: Car wobbles around, noticeable at low speeds, but gets worse as speed increases. Could be a number of things. Haven't done any diagnostics. Small oil leak somewhere. Smelled burning oil, and there was some on the manifold. Doesn't smoke at all, though. Transmission shifts really hard when you get into the gas. Shifts really smooth if you're just cruising around, though. Have no idea what this is, meant to check the fluid, but never got around to it. It's got the caps to all the wheels, and a full size spare in the trunk. I also don't think you could get this car any dirtier if you tried. We had to stop in a gas station so we could clean the windows off and actually see out of them. The interior is dirty, too. Everything, especially the plastic...just feels dirty. Carpet and upholstry is visibly dirty, though. I'll just attack every surface with wet paper towels to fix that problem. Nonetheless, I've committed to buy it as soon as the title comes in, which could be a week, or a few months. I also took a random video of it starting up. In other news, we've started rebuilding the firebird engine. Everything is difficult. Nothing wants to fit together. I painted the heads. I'd say they look half decent.
Re: General discussion chat Power windows should be easy to diagnose and rectify. You'll only need a multimeter with either continuity check or resistance modes (basically all multimeters have the latter, the prior is quite common too, you don't need a 500 dollar Fluke (that is a brand btw), just a 10 dollar thing will do the job). Most likely either worn switches or broken wire through the rubber hose between door and frame (wire failures through those are really quite common), depending on how the crown vic is set up, the switches for each door may actually have their wiring routed all the way to the drivers door or the driver and individual door switches may route to a common location, they are almost always wired directly in parallel unless there is also a lock switch on the drivers door in which case there is usually some sort of microprocessor for some more intelligence - but I'd suspect dodgy wiring or switches first rather than electronics, else the drivers switches likely wouldnt work either. Wobble on a car thats been beat on hard. Check track rods and steering rack, track rods of course wear through the vehicles lifespan and are replaceable (just had mine done because on one side the lovely round hole for the bolt had turned into a giant oval hole ), not too uncommon for steering racks to come loose from the frame either, that is repairable but depending on vehicle and/or how its come dislodged can be trickier. My first guesses anyway. Then of course you have wheel alignment (never get this done at a tyre place or anywhere that advertises using laser alignment, laser is notoriously inaccurate, go to a specialist only) or wheel bearings. Although if you can get a firebird restored, I'm sure you can suss it Transmission I have no idea, its an auto so its faulty already in my eyes. Got to love a full size spare though, my rear passenger side wheel is actually the spare
Re: General discussion chat The focus ST is just a wannabe Focus RS. Although considering you are american and the focus RS was never offered in the US (rumoured the mk3 RS may be going stateside though) you can be forgiven.

Re: General discussion chat Doubt it. The focus platform has no provisions for a driveshaft running between front and rear or a rear differential housing. Rear suspension doesnt account for driveshafts either. The RS is heavily modded from stock, but it would require substantial change, far more drastic than they have done before. But even if it did have AWD. Its plenty of good. An STi has 305hp. The Mk3 RS is due to use the 4 cylinder turbo from the mustang which is variously quoted as 305 or 310hp, except its thought in the RS it will be tuned up even further. So the Focus RS will be running STi levels of power, hmm, AWD may actually make perfect sense on it.
