Go for the 980 unless you really need lots of cpu power. Remember that many programs allow for Cuda which can often be faster.

You should probably describe your normal use case for the computer.

4790k and SLI 970s. If you can get them, they seem to be out of stock everywhere :/

Single 980. SLI isn't compatible with enough software to be worth the investment unless you already have the most powerful card on the market and still want more.

Most modern games and rendering software support SLI/CrossFire. There's a huge performance difference between a single 980 and two 970s.
However, if you're planning to use a single 1080p monitor, go with a single 970 FTW ACX 2.0. The 980 isn't worth the extra money.

Just got an email saying my 970 has been dispatched! Looking forward to see what performance is like compared to my 570 i have now. Maybe i'll be able to sue the new DSR feature to downscale 4k for BeamNG!

That's what I thought, and invest more into a 6core intel processor with ddr4 memory.

Yeah my 570 can do max settings, and it runs great on grid map but the more GPU intensive ones drop well below 30fps at times.

This is on a 980, no postfx, low mesh quality. Mesh LODs are based on resolution, so at 4k low mesh quality actually looks pretty decent. Pretty consistent 30fps. Dials and stuff look really fantastic and sharp but its not worth it in BeamNG IMO.

Only really planning on using it for screenshots. Tried it with the 570 but it was hopeless :p

I would kill for a 970 right now. Gigabyte is dragging me through broken glass for this RMA so I've got nothing but a iGPU right now. I'll just drool over the 4k video. :p

Just wondering, what would be better.

If I got a 4K Monitor, should I dual SLI my current 780 Ti, or get a new single 980 Ti.
