sourdisc you need to make a list of the vehicles it works for including the specific engine because i wanna know what works and what doesnt
BeamDrivers video on the first page explains that --- Post updated --- yeah its on the way, along with 5 cylinders
it would be great if more of the cars sounded different without exhausts, on some cars it's more obvious than others
Overall this sounds really good, but a lot of the engines, and almost all of the four cylinders, sound way too smooth, especially at higher rpms (above 6-7k), and lack base. This leads to them feeling very synthesized. Also, the sunburst doesn't sound any different from RS to Race exhaust, and lacks a lot of base.
thats because the engines i got the sounds from irl don't rev high enough to accomodate the revs of race engines. so the highest rpm that can be played just gets pitch shifted constantly all the way up the rev range. this happens in forza a lot with tuned engines since all the sounds come from real cars. its a physical limitation and theres not much i can do about it, although its not as noticable in this version as in previous versions --- Post updated --- ive heard people say it has too much bass so you can hopefully start to see why pleasing everyone while making a sound mod is reeeeeally difficult. as for the race exhaust, i can tweak that in the next update and i plan to do it for all engines too so you get more difference when switching tunes --- Post updated --- Also just so there's no confusion, and so you guys don't end up complaining about how the engines sound in real life without knowing it, I will attach 2 clips of some of the raw files used to create this mod. These are real engines and if you have a problem with the way they sound, then go and complain to Renault and Mercedes for all I care. If they are "too smooth" or "sound like race exhausts" just know that these are underhood recordings of a stock Renault (cheap euro brand for all you americans) and a 1.8L Mercedes, both of which are hardly sports cars. Things like the muffling and how high the engines rev realistically can not be changed since these are the recordings I'm working with. More recordings were used to create the wider mod of course, but I just wanted to give an example.
It's not really a problem of his sound mod really when it comes to changes in the sound if swapping exhaust systems in various cars that support his sound mod. It's the same issue with now unused old BeamNG Engine sounds, which can't change how muffled can sounds be. He probably mentioned it before, but his mod uses Blend audio system, same thing used in Forza Horizon and other games. They're simple, yet impossible to change their settings in real time like Voice system is, which is what BeamNG uses, and that's how you get farting exhaust sounds. And no, in FH5, they don't change real time when you swap the intake or exhaust, they change the entire engine sound instead (and if you have slow PC, it'll be noticeable since it has to load those sounds) If BeamNG developers dedicated some time to the sound modding community for this game, they should make Voices system to be modifiable, or even better, introduce FMOD's Bank system, which would allow the creator of this mod to use FMOD's software for it.
Additional note: Automation also uses Blend system when you export Automation cars to BeamNG. And they also barely change any sound when modifying them in BeamNG.
in a few days i guess, im still trying to hear as much feedback as possible --- Post updated --- Now I'm working on ETK V8 and I6 sounds for the next update
Yeah, Now that I've heard the samples you're working with, I completely understand how and why they end up sounding like they do. I really appreciate the in-depth answer you've provided, it helps a lot to properly understand why the result is as it is, rather than just saying "yeah I can't do anything about that" without any explanation. With that said, I still think that certain engines feel a bit flat, like they lack more dynamic tuning to their sound. (What I previously mistook as lack of base)
Is it just me or this mod somehow gets rid of the 1.6 and 1.9 DOHC engines in the Miramar? It works fine without this mod though.
