Hey guys, I just built a pc on pcpartpicker, I haven't actually built it cause I don't know if I should. I would like to know if this computer can run games like beamng, BF4, GTA5, ect(next-gen ect.) So should I build it? Thank you for support. LINK TO BUILD -------> http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TheSilverRam/saved/jFkgXL
Don't cheap out on the power supply. Never cheap out on the power supply. Good parts need good power, and running an 800w PSU at half its capacity is safer and more efficient than running a 500w near its limit. Get yourself a Corsair HX 7-800w or equivalent; CXes tend to go funky after a while, in my experience. To anyone saying "muh energy costs", realise that power is only drawn when needed. The rest of your build is strong.
this is the stupidest advice i've ever read. yeah, try to get a power supply from a reputable company. do not buy an 800w just because you're pressured into thinking it will blow up otherwise. good luck building a rig that ever needs more than 500w with only one gpu.
Well my budget is only one thousand. I don't know if I can get more then 500w without going over with 80 bronze+ and semi modular due to budget. EDIT: Wow, I somehow could find one that fits my budget and is over 500w. Just took a little bit of looking https://pcpartpicker.com/user/TheSilverRam/saved/jFkgXL
Nice choice there, heard the EVGA PSUs are excellent. In a way zappymouse is correct, overspeccing power supplies is a good idea, however for you're build even 500W is leaning towards overspecced ever so slightly. Got 88w on CPU, 250 on GPU, together we'll call that 350, there won't be another 150w to push it over that limit elsewhere in the system, it will be more comfortable in a 750w unit though. Be warned though. You may have to perform a BIOS update on you're motherboard before it will recognise devils canyon parts like that 4690
With power supplies it is generally a good idea to find what you need and add 100watts. This way you know for sure that you will be running well within spec and you also leave room for any extra expansion cards you may want to add into your pc. The other good reason (if you want to be really pedantic) is you will often gain a little efficiency. Most PC power supplies operate least efficiently when they are running at (or even worse when above) 100%, but its usually only a couple percent and given how much you will actually spend on power it really is no big deal but its always nice to have and will keep you running a little cooler and possibly help reliability a little. But nothing significant. On some more expensive power supplies the fan may turn off when it runs under a certain percentage so it is worth going way overboard just to have an almost silent psu. I quite like the PSU calculator on the enermax website: http://www.enermax.outervision.com/PSUEngine They are just using a re skinned calculator that is updated and ran by another company so they don't recommend a 700watt PSU for a casio calculator just to get some of dat moneys. I get to 428w for your build, bare in mind they will be slightly on the cautious side. So you should be fine with a 500w supply. 600w would be moderate overkill but depending on how much more you end up paying it may make more sense. 750w for that system is just plain overkill, if possible get a lower wattage supply that is more efficient or save some money and put it in somewhere else. Personally i went for a 600w psu (cooler master silent pro gold) for my I5 2500k, GTX560TI build just because i wanted to know that dual GPU's was always an option if it ever became appealing to me. If you really wanted to save quite a bit of money then the corsair builder 500w power supply is currently $29.99 on new egg due to a $20 rebate. Its a decent PSU with a brand behind it to offer a meaningful warranty. Also i don't know about what operating system you are running but depending on which you use and how you acquire it there may be an associated cost that you will want to factor in. Also you may want a dvd drive, its not necessary but personally i like the legacy support it gives and it means i can play DVD's if i ever need to. If you do want one then use one from an old PC or buy a cheap dvd drive for around $15.
Okay, I do plan on going Crossfire with the XFX 280x so that is why I got the psu. Also more room to upgrade anywhere. That's why I got the 750w. Also it is semi modular. - - - Updated - - - The g45 is compatible with the 4690k and does NOT need a BIOS update.
Maybe due to all the threads that pop up about individual PC builds (Asking for help, ideas, comparisons etc.) so it has prob been sticked to limit the amount of the mentioned threads being created. If the questions and queries are kept localised here, it essentially prevents duplicate threads. Also, new comers can read through previous posts that might be posted on this thread to see if there question has already been asked/answered without creating a new thread or having to crawl through the multiple other computer build related threads.
id have gone with an equivalent Nvidia GPU, just because of PhysX. otherwise good job like a gtx 970. it costs 70$ more, but is better than a 780 ti. and that for 350 bucks. id say money well spent
Windows 8.1 will probably be just fine with a couple of adjustments. But if they want win7 they may want to hurry since it has just been discontinued from sale. But as a windows 7 user i would have to say that you are probably better of getting win 8.1. While it can be a pain you do get a performance advantage over windows 7 and you will be better supported into the future. You can get it to function like windows 7 anyway.
Or simply adapt to use windows 8.1 instead, took grandfather under 24 hours to get used to it. They havent removed anything except the (in my opinion) long obsolete start bar.
Some people (me included) quite like the start bar. So i would prefer to keep it, i also don't really want metro all up in my face. Other than that though im fine with all of the other new stuff. Im that guy who usually likes the new YouTube UI updates, its not as if i don't like change, i just don't like features being removed. Just like when YouTube removed being able to search on an individual channel that irritated me but they did add it back in again eventually. I really don't like it when they remove things like shadow copy. Since that is a godsend for when i screw something up since it will let me revert to an older copy of the file. I dont know if they have fixed the search facility in win8 yet but i really like how it works in windows 7 from the start bar. Im looking forward to Windows 10, i would really like all of the performance improvements as well as the start bar with metro integrated as i think that's going to be a fairly awesome way to do things. I also think it would be cool if you could have android style folders on a windows desktop natively. I think that would make for a rather nice experience especially if you could pin them and have them expand on mouse over. I also really like the UI style of Zoin OS which looks fairly epic in my opinion. I actually also like Areo but the new metro desktop style looks fairly OK. As i said though, things like the start bar can be put back in using third party software. But i cant justify spending money on the pleasure of doing that. Which is why im not upgrading until Win10 (if its not complete garbage ofc) but i suggest people building new PC's go for Windows 8.1 since its not going to cost them more than Win7 did. Not everyone who is still using windows 7 doesn't want to update because they are stuck behind the old times and are less capable of adapting to new systems than your grandfather, i just don't want to pay to have features that i use removed in favor of a slight performance bump. I could get a bigger performance bump by putting that money towards a new GPU.
What do you mean fix the search? Its always worked perfectly (and for me, unlike windows 7 doesnt take 50 years to finish searching) Personally i think they should have kept the start menu for those who like it, and added the new start screen (modern ui, Microsoft doesnt have rights for "metro" name) for those who liked that (like in windows 10, hope it stays that way) Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
Windows 7 used a unified search where as Windows 8 did not at launch, if you searched for something you would have to tell it what category to search in and it quite often couldn't find things like msconfig (not sure if that one had an issue, just an example). The search also had big issues like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O98swVgLW1s Also worth noting that if i wanted to search the internet for something i would use Google, i don't really want bing results from my local OS search. Thankfully that can be disabled.
Well search searches everywhere on my pc without having to change any category, so I guess its fixed Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
