Sorry? I'm quite happy with it. Its been old faithful, certainly doesnt max a thing but it at least runs them.
Didn't say you were. I just don't care about being able to max every game and can't afford to upgrade when I have more important shit to spend money on. Can I still play new games? Yes. I might have to turn the settings down, but if they at least run smoothly (even on low settings) I am happy.
Yeah, the 3GB R9 280 is definitely a better deal than the 760 ATM, having had the experience of working with both. I currently use the 280 for 1080p in my two example titles, it easily lands 60 FPS in Titanfall and hovers around 40 for Watch_Dogs.
wat? the SC GTX 760 is not only cheaper, but is 7% better in performance so no it most certainly is not a better deal, also your uses != everyone else uses before you say anything like that (heck, the OP even stated that they don't have 1080P yet, let alone 4K or 1440p, so 2gb is still way more then enough) and stop using watch dogs as a comparison, it's made by ubifail and has horrible optimization
STOP ARGUING ABOUT AMD VS NVIDIA FFS it is drving me up the wall (not in a literal way but metaphorically). I am going for pure performance and AMD just wins. And BTW the R9 280X is better than the 760 Superclocked or whatever you were saying about and from what I've seen the same price. I'm thinking of a R9 285 which apparently very good... Also my dad has a old Server CPU cooler that has like 3 copper heat pipes on it and the size of the universe and then some (but still fits in the case) and was wondering how strict is the allowance for cross-compatibility between the older and newer generations of motherboard?.... Probably a stupid question but I was wondering if it would work, just would save me £20 that could be spent on something like GTA for the PC. And for pete sake just stop arguing about team Red and team Green, I have been team Red for ages, just because that was what was given to me by my parents, but this is the first time I have actually picked the parts, hence the thread. I wanted advice, not an argument (although I sort of knew it was coming).
no ones arguing amd vs nvidia, were arguing about waiting for the next gen 960 also idk where your looking, but in many benchmarks the 760 SC i was talking about beats a stock 280, while being cheaper 760SC: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperClo...e=UTF8&qid=1415831712&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+760 ($215.56 or $195.56 after rebates) 280: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R9-280-GAMING-3G/dp/B00JJNQ99U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415831730&sr=1-1&keywords=radeon+r9+280 ($237.96 rebates are not an option) and performance:
It is different in the UK! http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...aphicscards/amdr9280series/r9280gaming3g.html http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...scards/nvidiagtx760series/02g-p4-2765-kr.html £20 more for the 760 and probably less performance. I could probably get a 280X for the price which is MUCH better than any 760 will ever be. Case Closed.
thats because a lot of company's just change the symbol for UK prices, so they end up being way more expensive then it should be also thats a stock gtx 760, the gtx 760 SC would still have more performance (yes there IS a difference) whatever though, your money your choice
http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-Nvidia...15892850&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+760+superclocked http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAPPHIRE-AM...F8&qid=1415892896&sr=1-4&keywords=amd+r9+280x The "superclocked" GTX 760 is still more expensive. The AMD cards have been driven up but Crypto Currency in the US but not so much in the UK.
like i said, a lot of company's just tend to change symbols for the prices in the UK instead of actually converting the price itself
To find the right GPU for you, select a price class and find out which models are in it. Then you must look at how you will be using the card. For what? At what resolution? Using what engines? Pick the most preferred card. Then you find synthetic benchmarks which compares the cards. Note that the synthetic benchmark must done in the same physical computer with the same software settings to be accurate - Which is usually done by a single site/person. Doing this, you will find the most suitable card, if done correctly and combined with the appropriate components. Going back and forth here with users standing on their toes, blue in their faces, barely able to withhold the steam of righteousness, is not productive.
Hate to tell you, but the 280 can actually be found cheaper in the U.S., too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202099 $187 after rebate and including shipping. Having owned both cards at the same time and played the same games on them, I can tell you that while the 760 handles older games better at 1080p, the 280 in my experience crushes it in new releases at the highest settings because of its additional VRAM. If you drop both back to medium or low settings again, the 760 pulls ahead due to its more powerful processor. But from the sound of things, OP isn't wanting to settle for medium settings. Your signature indicates the 760 was a recent purchase if at all, I feel like I'm smelling some buyer's remorse/cognitive dissonance. Regardless, waiting for the 960 launch would mean severe price cuts on outgoing 760s, but OP has also indicated waiting isn't an option.
First off, learn to read, my signatrue says when I can AFFORD to get a 760 I will, I cant afford too though, cant have buyers remorse (which ik for a fact I wont) if you dont own it yet Second off, i was pushing the SUPERCLOCKED 760, you keep stating stuff as if your using a stock 760, which is a failure of a card (for goodness sakes, it's more expensive then the more powerful superclocked version, how does that even work) Since clearly we will never agree Agree to disagree If youve seen my post history youll know that I generally refuse other peoples experiences and all that Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
1: Touché. I simply assumed you didn't update yours, as I haven't mine yet. We tend to be slow in such things. Needless to say it's obvious you've made your decision and feel a need to defend it even though there is a cheaper and slightly better performing product on the market right now which is also poised to have more longevity, hence cognitive dissonance. 2: Reference above, running it at 1100MHz even when I was done with it. A measly 37 MHz between the SC and my ASUS will mean, like, half a frame/sec. And a few hundred extra megahertz on the same chip with the same VRAM and slightly better VRM spec is not the difference between amazeballs and total failure. If it is on a brand new product, you're riding too close to the limit of adequacy. 3: OK.
