What don't you like about the forum design?

Hi everyone, I am a designer with experience and I think no one will deny that the forum design is outdated. I decided to try to redesign it.

You as forum users, what are you not satisfied with? What would you like to change or add? Any ideas and suggestions?

I've got some work in progress right now, but I'm interested in your thoughts. I'll upload a layout of the design later.

UPDATE: Thread is still up, I'm busy with work at the moment, I'll upload concepts in the coming week..

 

I would add a more consistent design, animations, and a better search system.

 

Just so you know, the forum software is Xenforo. If you actually want to design a proper theme for it.

 

Make them look more like the main page, that's for sure. For consistency.

 

That would be nice, but I'm not a developer, so I can only make a mockup of the design, not a finished theme or something like that

(But if all goes well and maybe the official Beamng developers will pay attention to my project)

yes! The search function is terrible! They should just copy the search function from the repository, it works perfectly fine!

Hell, A while back I got to the forums from an older Windows XP machine using an ancient version of firefox.

 

Design is pretty optimal but it needs more reactions.

 

We need the informative back! also I saw on some forums there's a gif that is a smiley face that turns and turns into a butt. (Letting out my inner Beavis and Butthead)

There was a “funny” reaction? I’m guessing that the disagree was removed for toxicity or something, and I’ve heard some rumors of it, but never about funny. Informative also existed.

 

Once upon a time good sir we had access to a plethora of appropriate reactions to select from.

But you must understand, this community could not handle such liberties. The palette was with time reduced to what we know on this day.

 

I say the other way around. Design the main page like the forms.

 

make the search function usable, have a dark mode, and fix the wiki. other than thats its fine as is really, maybe bigger text size but its fine

 

I am unsure if you have been informed good sir, but larger text sizes are perfectly achievable on the forum as-is. This is considered a non-issue.

Bigger text size as option for writing posts or a general setting for people with bad eyesight?

What annoys me the most is the fact I can't use my mousewheel to scroll, makes me use the forum only really on mobile.
But there I can't acess the game and the quote system is a bit weird so I don't spend as much time on the forums as I would otherwise.

 

thing i hate about it is that the quote system can get super annoying fast
sometimes I am 99% sure people think I'm spamming or some shi because I literally can NOT see who I'm quoting, occasionally I'll end up quoting someone's message like 3 or 4 times every time I edit my message
