You are right... But hmmm... Maybe not the right place to post pics from somewhere? Please respect my artist decisions. Btw: The Pics are all color enhanced and thus not a guideline for me. Please delete them :).

I think he was just adding those images to draw comparisons, not asking you to change your map to look like that with those photos as an inspiration.

So I let things grew on :)
Since I don't work on areas systematically I have gathered some more views randomly. Enjoy!

For me, it looks more like Northern and Central Mexico with some hints from the Northern United States and Canada.

The hype continues to build. I like how you've added a lot of remote dirt roads in the high mountains, but not all of them are full-fledged offroad trails and many are suitable for just going on a wilderness jaunt in your family car, or maybe risky deliveries in a commercial vehicle.

    I like those camels
It can really be anywhere you imagine it. Fun fact, a lot of older American westerns (set in the western US and/or Mexico) were actually filmed in Spain, and the Mad Max movies were filmed in Africa. So it’s not just in games that you pretend a certain location is somewhere else, movie studios do this as well.

I have a bunch of hard offroad and crawling trails. They are very hard to go. But these are the cases where I have to increase terrain and design details e.g. real rocks and so on. So I decided to make them more local as special spots (because RAM :)). The hardest trail is not possible with any car and config I know. You have to tune everything, fit gear ratios, lighten the rig and give ballast to special low pressured tires and go extreme dynamicaly in the right moment. The slower the road the higher the details. The bigger the map the lower the details. See?

Sometimes I think while working, I've been there before but I don't know exactly where it was. It was like that with the (recent) waterfall: I think I saw it somewhere in France when I was a child. And as I began to build it in the map, more and more memories came back, even some of the sounds, which I then also arranged and brought into the map. It's great fun working on it!

Important note: In the last bunch of (24) pics only 20% of the map is shown. Thats where I made the screenshots.

I tried to drive a bit slowly so I wouldn't fly off at the next curve... So here it is, uncut and in full length:

I've managed to only use one poly. It is an imposter. I slighly have pointed the face normals upwards, so the caravane can catch light from above to their vertical surface. Additionaly there is a special normal map.

I suppose this is going to be one of the best roadtrip maps of beamng. Very special. Its very nice to see you doing constant progress and updates, not like most maps that start off ambitious and then get abandoned. I know how much work gets into these projects and this is really something to appreciate!

Got to show you some more beautiful things... :)

At the foot of the highest mountain, called 'Mt. Durckeberger', it's a great place to linger. Even passing through with a powerful car invites you to stop. I'll show you a few pictures, but there are many breathtaking views and vistas in the western part of the mountain range.

The small town of 'Du Rangier' (probably a French place, I have no idea how I come up with these names), with its quaint village square and gas station, got a train station today. Another hub for various modes of transportation has been established. Ferries, trucks, buses, and trains converge here, if the schedule were ever followed... The nearest airport is also not far away.

Sometimes it's really strange: All day I work with multiple test vehicles, constantly jump into the World Editor, and even keep AI traffic enabled, and BeamNG doesn't crash a single time o_O!

... sorry that there is not even a single station clock! Let alone a proper signaling system. OK. I'll see what else I can do. The main thing left to do is that one can drive on a longer railway track for now ... ;)

Should I stay or should I crawl

To experience a great off-road adventure on this map, just drive off the road. There are countless opportunities to test your driving skills on rough terrain. The curiosity to get somewhere or to find one of the numerous spots replaces any prepared offroad gameplay mission.

    screenshot_2024-07-02_17-49-48.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_18-31-44.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_17-59-36.jpg

I don't know yet if I'll keep the locations and passages with the real object-based rocks as they are. Maybe some of them. But I've finally realized that I can't cover 70 km² with rock objects o_O, even if it looked nice at first, because it simply requires too much RAM. You start with one rock and then there are always more and more. Using rocks as vegetation objects (trees) is recomended but has the decisive disadvantage that they don't accept decal roads nor decals on them. As I said, I'm increasingly moving away from real rocks.

    screenshot_2024-07-07_13-59-51.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_18-34-12.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_18-45-01.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_19-01-07.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_19-10-41.jpg screenshot_2024-07-02_19-33-38.jpg

So I've shaped the terrain in many areas by hand according to my ideas of roughness and erosion. The best: It doesn't cost a single byte of RAM nor does it affect the FPS. The only thing that might happen is that you prefer to stop, shut down the engine, listen and enjoy the scenery views.

I have plenty of work (seems a never ending) but for now I hope you enjoyed the new pics again.
