Hydrogen is by far the best fuel, however the technology on the market is very expensive and not refined enough for it to be a viable option. In 15-20 years, hydrogen cars might be more common. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is quite efficient, but again, the technology is not there, and the only real implementations in the US are in buses.
