Hi, Im new to this. Beamng seems awesome. What I don't understand is, after all these years, how is it that you haven't tried to get a large dev team and make a racing game out of this that's similar to Gran Turismo or something? Nobody has offered to invest? The potential is truly amazing. A proper racing game or even an open world racing game that similar to forza horizons would be amazing with this engine. Has there been any effort to try to do this at all? I mean for years now you've just been floating with a bunch of devs and that's it? And you're ok with that? How do you stay afloat financially?

My personal opinion, not dev statement: A small group of dedicated passionate people is better than a large group of people who get paid to do a project they are not necessarilly interested in, passionate people will add more attention to detail and ensure that everything is both realistic and well optimized in the case of our game, I have seen this first hand. And what you say about racing can be also said about rally, offroading, trucking, drifting, demo derby, police chases, so many areas of interest for our game, in my opinion it's better to be broad and focus on providing a wide range of experiences that all manage to capture the correct feel, than to dedicate the game into just one area and lose a large part of the existing audience that might not enjoy it in particular.

That basically is what they are doing now. You can see the conversation about the WIP career mode on this thread here. It's basically a modern take on the old Steeet Legal Racing Redline game. It's an open world career mode with missions in 4 catagories, each with 4 sub catagories including motorsport, delivery missions, a police campaign, and some silly stuff thrown in. You can play a sneak peak in the public client, just keep in mind your save game gets wiped every major game update since it's still WIP and the experience fundementally changes with every game update.

As far as size/outside investing... The full time BeamNG team was around 80 people a few years ago, plus some contractors like TDK. While still smaller than most AAA studios, they are getting close in size to teams like Criterion and Turn 10. BeamNG remains independant of a big publisher, which I personally think is great since they can stick to their own vision for the game. The only downside is a lack of marketing; we'll see how the team handles that in the future I guess.

As for finances... They have a few commercial contracts which I imagine are rather lucrative, and the game itself is one of the top selling racing games on Steam. While I personally have asked that same question a lot myself, they seem to be doing fine.

I know this may classify as slightly off topic but is there any chance the next update will re add the ability to only generate thumbnails that aren't already in the vehicles folder or add the ability or just select specific configs to generate because it is pain to have to generate 130 thumbnails when I just need 5 gets worse when it bugs out on an important one and then I have to start again form the beginning adding more and more minutes of waiting

J/hmm yes 200bx engine lines are "realistic"

Minor Detail Jokes aside, this is a good point. I would much prefer beam.ng's small dev team and dev cycle with actual GOOD content, instead of a large dev team like FH5 and NFS.

I completely agree with this. I've owned the game since 2016 and was interested in the game since the demo (fun fact, I set an old computer on fire trying to download it) and I've never ever seen an update I didn't like, every single time the dev team does amazing work regardless of the update size.
Even with the next update said to not be anything major, with it mainly being backend work, the devs still work to add something new, and while it may not be a new vehicle or map ect, it's always little things that the community are after and allow for so much more creative freedom in the playerbase. Keep up the amazing work as always guys.

you did what to the old pc?! jokes aside. i agree too. i have seen updates that is maybe not exactly what i wanted, but i have never seen a update that i did not like. the devs only pumps out good quality content. i'm also surprised with the amount of content too. they pump out a LOT of new content considering the quality. sometimes i start to question if they even sleep

I once fried an old laptop playing a game. Laptop fixed, still works, and has been a trooper playing that game (that it probably shouldn't) for 4+ years.

Never forget to regularly clean your computer heat systems, specially on laptops :p

I agree with you on everything except the updates. I disliked the gambler update, but that's more of a personal opinion, and still wish WCU was different.
