Early Experimental Preview of Career Concept

    Doesn't matter if I'm in the vehicles or not, in fact the bottom picture was also taken outside of the vehicle. You can see the tach goes up to 0 RPM cuz of the unicycle.

    First of all, I want to commend you, krallopian, for the sheer amount of community engagement you do.

    My main question is whether the career mode will eventually include functionality that allows players to name their own prices and sell their cars. Something akin to NFS Porsche Unleashed (2000), where in the "Evolution" career mode, there was a fully simulated used car market. AI-generated cars would appear in varying conditions, and players could buy these cars, repair them, upgrade them, race them, and then sell them to make a potential profit. Players could set their own sale prices, and the game would respond with a counter-offer based on the car's year, mileage, condition (overall and parts), and performance. As a kid, I felt this feature was revolutionary at the time, and I’m keen to see if a similar feature will be included in BeamNG's career mode. The former allowed players to earn money on the side by purchasing old cars, repairing and upgrading them, and then selling them for the highest prices, which I think would fit perfectly in the latter with WCUSA's economy.

    It is set to five vehicles but there's a couple of ways around it. You could download one of the two mods that increases the garage slots to 20 or 99 https://www.beamng.com/threads/0-32...redealerstock-enablepolice-moretraffic.94461/

    I went to \steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\lua\ge\extensions\career\modules, opened "inventory.lua" then find the line that says "local slotAmout = 5" and changed the 5 to 28. It gives me a little more capacity than the 20 slot mot but doesn't leave me with 98 rows of empty garage slots looking bare.

    The way I've seen favourites implemented in other games is just having a section of the UI set aside for all the items you've marked as "favourite". The section is only sorted by date added or alphabetically, and it is left up to the player to decide which of the items is their "most favourite". In BeamNG, it could look something like this:



    This may be what @HerbieVW953 had in mind. It would be best if players could add as many favourite configs as they want and the section would simply add rows to fit them, but allowing as many favourites as needed to fill up the width of the UI would be a good start.

    What am I supposed to do with this Unpaid Fines mission in career mode? I stop them and then nothing happens other than the timer stops, if I try and abandon it just fades to a black screen and stays that way until I force exit.

    I managed to try one of the other missions (one running from Police) but I don't see much benefit from doing it as it cost more to repair my car from all the ramming (B8.4K) than I got from the mission (B450).

    I finally managed to get a Miramar. I don't know how many hours I have played but I have checked the vehicles for sale every time I have been back to the garage but still not seen another Pigeon since that once. I have also never seen a single Wigeon, Piccolina or Stambecco, despite some people online saying they are frequently available. Is there any way to increase the chances of these appearing? Is it a certain dealership they will show up at that I need to visit or deliver to more often to get them to show up?

    Regarding the limitless amount of vehicles; for now we're keeping it relatively balanced to reality, since you'll be paying insurance for all of these vehicles, and potentially renting storage etc to keep them. When you can just pile up limitless vehicles, it almost takes away from the individual vehicles you own; I know in one popular game out there, I have HUNDREDS of cars, and it's beyond annoying to find the one I want when scrolling them, and then I end up with, "Do I want the first, second, third, or forth variant of the exact same car right now?" So there is certainly a balance to be had here, and for now with the above-mentioned mod, it's quite easy to tweak it to whatever you want as the rest of the gameplay is developed! I agree though, the current limit of 5 is low, even if it's based on the physical parking outside of the garage at the moment.

    It's interesting that you see no difference between being inside the vehicle and outside of it, this isn't normal behaviour in itself. I'll pass this on to the graphics guys though so they're aware! Thanks for the report.

    I appreciate the kind words, thanks for that! I too loved how Porsche Unleashed did this, I was only 17 myself at the time and remember thinking, "FINALLY a game does this right!" haha. It's inspirational, and certainly along the same vein as I'm hoping things go. Although jumping into that specifically is a ways off yet, it's certainly a target I hope to land at least right beside if not bullseye!

    Thanks for sharing, and I appreciate the screenshot concept! It certainly works well for something like freeroam, but at the moment with the limit storage space/vehicle ownership it doesn't fit the gameplay just yet. If/when things progress to having tens of vehicles, it'll certainly be worth building a system like this! Thanks for helping clarify things!

    Regarding the missions, they're older and will eventually be phased out/replaced, but I'm sorry to hear they aren't even working correctly at the moment. They're not indicative of actual Career Mode gameplay, but were used to further prototype the various rewards and progression systems.

    The Pigeon and other rare vehicles are a constant pain point for people based on their population numbers right now, I'm hoping the guys have got it sorted, but I'll be sure to lean in on it some more!

    With the next update around the corner, would it be possible to transfer at least the money and XP onto the next save? If I'm going to play the missions for the 5th time, I'd like to at least start with enough cash, granted the next version is still experimental and will be reset for 0.34...

    Yes I'm broke in my current save :(

    I've just come across a pretty weird bug when I was trying to deliver a trailer in Career Mode.
    I had a trailer spawned in Rent A Box and was backing up to connect it to my truck, but as soon as I connected them, the game paused due to an instability issue and respawned the truck with the trailer stuck inside of a fence a few metres away (where the truck had spawned in the first place).
    I just moved on and discarded the delivery, got a new one and then every time I tried to start up the engine the game would pause game due to instability issues... There were mods installed but I don't think they had to do anything with this, we cannot discard that idea though!

    I'll keep you updated if this happens again

    Due to the nature of the freeroam-open-ended gameplay, the story will be very limited and allow for players to explore the gameplay they want as they want to. I personally am excited for the lore of the world itself that players are engaging with; the dealerships, businesses, points of interest, etc.. creating a place that feels alive without forcing the player to choose a fork in the road at each major event as some game styles do.

    At first glance, this certainly seems mod related. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, as this isn't a common report or experience by anyone else that I'm aware of! :)

    This is already there, but we have improved it's visibility for this next release!

    I have asked the team to start working toward this, especially with this recent long-delay between updates where many players may have sunken many many hours and it's a shame to lose progress. They are looking into a bandaid fix for this release, but moving forward will be prioritizing the ability to migrate old saves. Our biggest challenge has been related to the different and changing XP types. For instance, on one save you may have "Labourer Branch XP" and on another, something as simple as "Laborer Branch XP" even though they are the same, the spelling is different, and would cause the save to be completely broken - it obviously goes much further than this in regards to vehicles, their parts, naming conventions, databasing and much more. However, this is certainly something we want to improve, especially for the players who are getting their hands dirty with the gameplay now while we're working, anything we can do to minimize the disappointment of having to give things a do-over "again!?"

    Hahah I was fighting for "Labourer" but lost the vote, so it was officially switched to "Laborer" so I wanted to say it one last time! :D

    As for save migrations, agreed I'm very happy we're headed that way as well, it's time we do.

    Also, I'd like to take a second to reiterate a recent update I made above on the progress of Career Mode. We’ve certainly made solid progress, particularly with improvements in Delivery, Drag Racing, and Drifting gameplay, but unfortunately, we haven’t been able to check off as many tasks as we initially anticipated. Specifically, finalizing the Delivery Skill is still in progress, which has also pushed back our start on the Motorsports Branch and really getting the Drifting and Drag Racing integrated fully into the gameplay.

    This current phase has primarily focused on behind-the-scenes improvements and enhancing the systems that support the Delivery Skill gameplay. As always, it's a work in progress and will continue to be refined further, but I just want to manage expectations since there may not be as many new Career Mode features ready for immediate release as I had initially suggested after the last release. Most of the core systems are now built and working seamlessly together, so we’re close to the point where we can say, "The foundation is set, the main systems are up and running—now it's time to start adding substance!" From there, we’ll focus on bringing the gameplay to life and making it really engaging! There are a lot of really exciting things that I'd love to mention regarding gameplay opportunities and plans, but I'll save those for later when we actually dive into them!

    (Another) Joke aside, still looking forward to whatever work you guys have completed on the delivery and motorsports sections! Although now that someone mentioned changing plates, now I kinda want official vanity plates :p

    i did not mean that kind of story, like do this and that. i meant more of a story where the player are the one that decides how it is gonna unfold. i think it maybe be called player driven story (i'm not entirely sure though) that was what i meant, pretty much just something that makes it feel more like what the player does, does actually have a impact while still being in full controll. i can see why you mistake it for the kind of story where the player does not decide what is gonna happen. i maybe did not explain it that well. i hope this explanation is better.
    i doubt this is anyone that want the type of gameplay that forces you to play a certain way, but i do see it very likely to be a lot of people that would love the player driven type of story. you can play however you want and still get the chance to experience a good story that makes everything feel more meaningful. pretty much just like in real life. everyone have they own story and everyone decides themselves what the story should be like.
