Early Experimental Preview of Career Concept

    The license plates actually use a different sort of.. technology, but we'll see what happens down the line! In the past I made my own custom plates from here in Ontario, Canada by replacing the image it uses, so I'm sure it'll be possible to do eventually, but it's not being actively worked on at the moment.

    Thanks for the additional clarification. I now better understand your question, and I believe the current gameplay design already supports this idea. It will become clearer once we have all the skills and branches available to play with.

    One approach I initially considered was making players choose a specific "class" of gameplay, similar to how many first-person shooter games work (for example, Support, Engineer, Recon, Medic). In our game, this would be like choosing between "Labourer, Motorsports, Specialized, Adventurer." The player would start their career by selecting a branch, and their story would evolve based on their choice—whether they become a top law enforcement agent, a track racing master, or a logistics expert.

    However, while testing this concept, I realized it made the gameplay feel too restricted. Sometimes, players just want to have fun, like smashing traffic cars or drifting around corners. So I thought, why not let them? That's why I decided to give players access to all four branches from the start. This way, they can progress through them at their own pace, based on their preferences. This approach offers the fullest experience to a wide variety of players.

    Of course, there are still some issues to work out. For example, why would a food delivery person suddenly switch to being a police officer, then go do stunts for a movie studio, and later race at a championship track? But at the same time, why not? It's a game, after all, and BeamNG.drive is about enjoying the driving experience. A Career Mode that allows players to drive anything they want, while being challenged and rewarded, while at the same time remaining open-ended, seems like the best solution for everyone, and as such the story will be very loose and revolve more around the world the player is in, rather than the player's story itself.

    Agreed. I'm not sure if everyone would appreciate the "Macgyver" (80's one of course...) style story where he's done everything, and knows everyone.

    I apologize, it's actually not there in the current Steam release! My mistake, we must have implemented it directly after our last release. It's been a longer-than-usual release cycle this year, so I lost track of time!

    I’m not sure if I suggested this yet so sorry if it’s a repeat, but I believe there’s a lot of potential for UI features to be purchasable. For example, instead of pulling up the dynometer from the UI apps users would have to take their car in to get tested for a torque/rpm graph. Thermocouple device for brakes, pitot tube for airspeed, etc. etc.

    Honestly I just love having a price tag tacked to everything in-game. It makes things feel like I’ve worked for them XD

    any plans to improve the engine tuning? in my opinion so does it deserve to be more advanced. the current tuning ain't bad so not really any hurry. just something that i think should get better in the future

    I keep getting an issue where the camera keeps falling off and there's an lua error that's keeps showing up and the only way sometimes the camera gets fixed is my driving a bit forward or backwards from where the camera got stuck, during this period i am unable to do anything like opening map etc. And resting lua sends my car to the garage but when driving again the issue recurs
