This is Childhood inspired track.. (It's Early beta) A level idea I thought of earlier today. I spent countless hours playing with toy cars with my mothers books and my elementary school books.. So I made a roughed out track design for one of my favorite games. Here is a roughed out unpolished idea of it.. 0:23 for inside truck lap 1:25 side truck view 2:42 race lap Any ideas to make a finished map would be awesome.. it's like my super rally cross idea.. a bit to short for a map. Any ideas to add and remake it better can help even if you can not draw (like me) I can make something cool from it. Object types to suggest "Lego" like items toys props track shapes. Any idea is a good idea.
I kinda like it. Especially you make it from school equipment (etc. books, pencil, table) instead of road.
That has got me thinking about a school room scene or a house interior as the location for the next rendition if not a final version of the track. This is the very first version I did. =]
One of the most influential, if commonly forgotten, parts of level design is verticality. How tall the playing field is from bottom to top. Even the elevation range of a few feet can make all the difference in how the level plays. Although it's likely difficult to envision how this would work on flat, level desktops and counters ('Hot Wheels'-style track sections, perhaps?)
In the first post I was using only the 3 simple props (the books, paper, pencils) on a wood floor to change the elevation. but... Imagine a school room that challenges you to travel. From the floor to the chairs to the desktops to maybe higher counters and shelves, into the air ducts in the roof. All the way learning little story's that could be shown along the way. Maybe many rooms or chapters or just one characters memory's from 1st-12th grade. The laughs, hard times, and the best of times along the journey. That's just a random thought "hot wheels"-style peaces would be helpful to smooth stairs and some obstacles! I need to maybe stay away form ramps an figure eights. I just noticed the similarity's to my other track. I'm thinking the finished product being crawler type track. But hybrid or high speed track can also work.
Very nice. Maybe a few mouseholes that are tunnels you can drive though and connect parts of the map?
