LOL - Just showing and sharing the happiness if I had another big step towards release . "Purdy" is to comment it in a negative way. Did you have bad day?
Oh ... Google said it means "disagreeably self-important". If that's not true, I'm sorry. Well, englisch is not my native language. Please write in such a way that even a stupid German can understand it .
I guess it depends, but in this case it does mean "pretty". --- Post updated --- In the UK, it means that, I guess. I just looked it up, too. In the US it's "pretty".
OK . I like to make a little headline for my picture posts, simply because I'm really happy to have made so much progress again. It's just my way... Hope that's ok, regardless of origin or language .
Generally it's also to sound kinda funny, and maybe to sound like a dummy, or someone from southern USA. Also (imho) it's less "fruity" than saying "pretty". Just a little non-dictionary info for yah.
it was not meant in a bad way at all I like how it looks I didn't even know it had that second meaning
Tower HNH invitation to the topping-out ceremony The radio messages from the tower have been heard for a few days, but the tower itself was slow to arrive. I wanted an airport tower with character. With multiple uses. Something that architecturally brings the sea and the sky together. So I started Blender and constructed a new building. This is what came out of it: The Tower Hotel November Hotel. It provides an airport fire department in the basement. The second floor is open for public and has a plane spotting terrace with best view onto the runway and there's an animated aviation history picture show in the lobby. Fife floors above are for rent but have an astronomical pricing so they might stay empty for a long while. And on top of course is the air traffic control center with animated radar and navigation lights . All materials are already in use. And the asset of course comes with three levels of detail and a reduced poly count so I have no big FPS impact . I always attach great importance to this. The airport terminal and parking garage are coming next... Maybe even tomorrow .
I am always amazed by your attention to fps optimization. You are absolutely right and I should be more mindful about this aswell. Anyways great work as usual.
Fantastic work 'Barbent', nicely populated maps with great detail...I would like to live at that 'Tower HNH'
I also browse this thread as a motivational booster. I also think that it doesnt matter if you make a high quality map / highly detailed. Especially if its your first map. By the time you finish your first map you will learn soo much that you would want to redo it all. So i recommend starting bit smaller and think of it as a learning map and not a full project. Other than highly detailed maps, you can also make fun maps. Spealer maps for an example.
I'm glad to deliver some inspiration and motivation to you ! Yeah, I fully agree. Start with a small project. This is my third map - thought let's make it big this time - and so I think every day, I am megalomaniac - LOL. The first map I made was small and ugly but I was able to learn so much things and learn where the stumbling blocks are. And learned the most important rule: BACKUP frequently! BACKUP versions! Different BACKUPs after work AND the next day, when the map loaded properly. I had some massive data losses created by the World Editor (cause it's alpha, too ) and had to recognize it only the next day. AVOID frustration. Manage your data safety! It should be the very first step on map making! So here's the obligatory appeal to fear (LOL): HPW : As you might know, on "A Homerange" are several airports. Today I was working on the tower, with the radio call sign Hotel Papa Whiskey (Homerange Pi Water). "π Water" is a medium fishing village and ferry port. (π Water cause it's in a circular bay. You know for sure, what the children are laughing about - LOL! "Peewater Peewater, hihihi ". Well, they will grow up). But Pi Water is very serious and has an airport like Nodehinge Hill, too. The tower is more rural but it also sends out dedicated radio messages to the air traffic, just like the Tower HNH. Every aviation or radio/tv tower has it's unique color blink code, so they can be visually identified even form 5-10km distance. The runway is not that long (950m) as in Nodehinge Hill (1400m), but you know these Antonov pilots: they softly bring their birds down, precisely, just before the stall. WIP pics: Quiz: How many aviation facillities (airports / guided airstrips) are on A Homerange till now?
Yes fun maps are fun :>) but there are also a lot of beamng'ers who like the realistic big maps, I am such a person, so I am happy with what Barbent is trying to creat. Also when you want to do roleplaying in a map, a realistic map gives much more satisfaction to do so.
There are of course two different perspectives: For someone who creates maps, it is a huge task. For someone who enjoys it, the map cannot be big and varied enough. When you want to create a new map, it is very easy to overestimate yourself because: Acquiring the know-how is not easy because you have to laboriously search for every piece of information on the internet, some of which is not even correct, and there is no documentation at all. You need knowledge from many things like programming, graphics design, 3D object design and much more. If you don't have a team of 10 professional people, you can easily spend a year or more building a larger map. Since nobody has that much spare time (except me - LOL), many maps are created that seem unfinished or unbalanced. Maybe it is better to have small, beautiful and good (fun) maps, rather than a few large ones that never feel finished. I am very happy to be able to do this here . Thanks for all your ongoing interest, what is an essential part for such a big project! <3
