I've done some tests and even with loads, you can do perfectly ok with an I4 Engine, V8 feels very excesive and out of place. Although it can be applied in certain scenarios but most of the variants including scenarios should be better off with more classic experience and use the I4. Or maybe add the same scenarios but with the I4 engine. It suits it better in my opinion :)

I do believe that using V8 is suitable considering how situation was with Ford https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Model_18

While V8 was 65hp I4 was 50hp, not huge difference, however people still chose V8 over I4, while surely I4 would of been sufficient.

Based on that it would seem logical that V8 is used more.

Personally it feels pretty appropriate for the era to have an engine that is just a bit faster than the suspension and chassis can safely manage. Also It's not like the V8 is unmanageably fast and the extra torque does help fill out the mile wide gear ratios you get.

also is it normal for this engine to sound like a 1950s + mustang?

i mean thats totally up to the engine resonance and burn. old engines did sound roughly this puttery, some even worse (looking at you vw flat-four)

it may not be totally accurate to the ford A family this car is heavily influenced by, but it isnt unrealistic either i think

that's purely why i avoid driving the v8 model. I really don't think it's realistic. I makes it sound like a ford mustang. It's off putting for me. I try to stick with i4 until the developer adressed this

I think the Flathead V8 sound is actually pretty on-point to the real thing.

It is a real flathead V8 recording, from a Mercury Monteroy... a bit of a newer vehicle, admittedly. It's the i4 which needs replacing with better source imo... asap .

Ironically, in most cases the "classic experience" was the V8, as most Ford buyers of that era opted for the bigger engine. The only versions where the four outsold the eight were the ones marketed towards utilitarian buyers (vans, wagons) or the budget ones (Standard Roadster/Phaeton).

Is there a particular reason to why the V8 vaguely has a i5 sound ?like to me it sounded like a V8 mixed with a 5

I may be wrong but I chalk it up to flathead. all flatheads ive ever heard have been puttery like that. could also be the exhaust setup on the nodegroup's merc that is messing with it
