this is how cheapest tata nano version looks like inside. only a 80mph speedometer (top speed is 105km/h or 66mph so its enough), digital cruisemeter, 2 horns, few open glowbox places and manual transmission. lame and not safe at all (no airbags of course).
It looks like there are covered up places where they could put air vents in though. Maybe air vents are an optional extra. I took a look at the ncap stuff for Indian cars and they all seem to be fairly appalling, at least VW offer to fit two front airbags making their car the only one to receive anything other than 0 stars. They need to get something sorted over there, sadly most people buying these cars cannot afford anything better therefore have no choice in the matter.
And they mostly use it in cities which have massive jams, so it doesn't really matter... Still safer than a whole family on a scooter
Carrying a full Indian family on a scooter isn't usually an option. But yeah, i guess you are right, most collisions will be 2mph scrapes in congestion. But that doesn't mean that safety features such as 3 point seat belts shouldn't be included on the rear seats.
The thing about the nano though is its price. It is undeniably a crap car. But it is a functioning car still, it will move a family from A to B, not only that but it does that while only costing the equivalent of £1000 *new*. To do that for £1000, its shortcomings can be ignored, its an extremely good car for the price.
Which is why it is a fairly impressive vehicle, but i still think that they should have certain things like 3 point seat belts on at least 4 of the seats (with middle one being 2 point if needs be). I really think the government there needs to do something, while it would be unrealistic to force vehicle manufacturers to fit each vehicle with 5000 airbags and a bonnet that pops up in the event of hitting a pedestrian etc there are some things that i think should be required. Mainly because if a company can put 3 point seat belts on a vehicle as an optional extra then they will charge as much for that as they feasibly can. Whereas if they are forced to have 3 point seat belts as standard then they will not be able to charge extortionate prices for them since they will have to remain competitive. While a lot of driving in India is in urban traffic there will also be driving on less populated roads as well.
I find this version better than original only the front doesnt really fit it should be bulkier to increase the safety and add a space for spare wheel maybe. I feel like it would be awesome that developers added it somehow in the game as pigeon deluxe
nothing beats this car at anti-safety....its like crashing a grand marshal at 186MPH (its filmed at 62mph) tata nano is just safe compared to this pile of plastic-fantastic on 4 wheels!
Let me remind you that the Commodore in that video was loaded with 375 kg of sand. The destruction is not suprising at all with that much weight added to the car.
In fairness the holden was going 50% faster than the tata nano in its crash test. Im sure the tata nano would probably look similar after a 62mph crash in the front occupants. If 40mph is enough to cause structural failure of the passenger cabin and extra 20 miles per hour will probably wreck it at least the front row part of it. EDIT: If above is true then 50% more speed combined with 50% more weight (the car only weighs 600kg in the first place) then it would end just as badly
