Around October 2022. And the game has made a lot of progress in the last year, it's been pretty subtle but huge improvements all around have been made.

IDK the how long it will be for the game to be "finished" but if you take for example "RoR" (Rigs of Rods) (what BeamNG is based off of) has been in development for almost 10 years now and its still not finished and its still being devloped. I'm by no means of saying it will take that long as its only a example. Why worry when its going to be "finished"? its a excellent simulator and its going to improve. BeamNG was built from the ground up and Tdev (Thomas) and the rest of the dev team is working as much/hard as possible. Its an alpha for a reason they could have done closed beta and not relaese it till its finshed (which could be years from now) so please don't complain. :)

    On edit

    As

Nadeox said below the game will never be "finished" features and mods , improvments will be added and it will grow bigger and bigger and never stop.

When it's going to be finished? Never.
Has there been progress? Yes, a lot of them.
Why can't I see them then? Because they weren't packed into a public release yet.

This game will never be 'finished'. It's one of those game that will keep on developing, adding more and more features and etc.
You should have looked into the Dev Blog, there is written a part of all the work being done to the game apart for bug-fixes, improvements and others.

Okay, if it won't be "finished", when will it come out of early access?

Why do you think we know? We don't.

As for no progress in over a year. There was an update around october/november, because that was totally over a year ago. There was a dev blog about the next update within the last week.

Do you want a date, because nobody would be able to give you an exact date on that.
I'd say at least 2 years due the huge amount of work this kind of game needs, but that's just my opinion, not an official statement or whatever.

Is this really something worth caring about? The dev team doesn't even know; just leave it at that.

Well I bought the early access expecting it to be finished at some point, or at least no longer be considered early access eventually. Understanding my purchase is something worth caring about.

Yes, it will be "finished" at some point. Patience is key.

You're an entitled little shit then. Having paid for early access doesn't mean the developers have to please you, or do anything you request. The price of BeamNG isn't even enough to cover lunch for one person. I would start complaning if they took the money and ran, but no. The devs are working hard day in, day out to bring new features, content, and stability to the game. Just have a modicum of patience and stop being an asshat. It's really that simple.

Do you not understand how early access works? It's in the damn Steam rules. Early access games must deliver a completed game at some point or they are falsely advertising. If they do not deliver, everyone who bought into it gets a refund. It doesn't matter if stuff is being worked on if it never comes out. How many months have they been promising the race update? Six? Eight? Until something resembling a game comes forth I lose hope in the production of this game day after day. Bug fixes and stability are great, but they are advertising a game with many more modes and features. It is false advertising to not deliver any of those features.

Do you not understand how software development works? They don't just push a button marked 'add cool features instantly pls'. It takes months to add big features that the more naïve users appreciate. Force feedback? That requires so much planning, research, and testing it'll make your head spin. I can't stress how much of a virtue patience is when it comes to the development of a complex piece of software from a small team of about a dozen people. We're all waiting for progress, but we also know how hard the devs are working to push new stuff out to the public. The Early Access guidelines indeed state that a completed game must be delivered within reason, but they don't state that it has to be finished in a day because some fool on the forum has a hot head.

    edit:
Ooooooft, I completely overlooked this point. Well spotted, G.

Please link to these Steam rules you speak of. I can only find this:

On top of that, the game isn't even released for purchase on Steam, its simply using the steam client to manage updates in preparation for Steam's Early Access program. So whatever rules you've found on Steam wouldn't even apply yet.

Yes they have done lots of work to the game.
Maybe your not running the experimental version to see what's going on.

If he opts into the experimental version he'll probably just complain about every single crash and bug. Without him realizing its "experimental" and most of the latest stuff is buggy and should be expected to be.

To be honest, I don't think/want this game to ever be finished. If the game is finished, then no new major features can be expected. I want to see the game have new and cool stuff throughout it's life!
