We have a thread for the ugliest cars, the prettiest cars, and the most underrated. Why don't we take a spin at talking about the most overrated cars out there. These are the vehicles that everyone rants and raves over. The vehicles that people worship, eat, breathe, and sleep, and yet you don't see the point. Let's try and please keep this grown up with minimal argument. I'm putting more trust than I should into this forum. Lets start off with... hmm... The BMW 3-series Where should I even start, hmm? It's a mid-sized, 6-cylinder, RWD 4-door saloon car. It's ludicrously expensive, hideously ugly, doesn't really get all that great gas mileage, and every single person who drives one think their special for some reason. I mean, look at this thing: Who at BMW, one of the world's biggest car manufactures, possibly thing that that styling was a good idea? Let's look at that price again, shall we? The base model 3-series, the 320i starts at $32k in the states. The Cadillac ATS, a suitable competitor to the 3-series as it's another mid-sized 4-door saloon car starts at about the same at $33k. Well, what are the specs? The BMW comes with a 180 HP turbo 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Sounds intriguing. But the Cadillac comes with a 2.5L N/A 4-cylinder with 202 HP. Could BMW really not get anymore power out of their turbo 4? No, no, I know, if they did, it would be faster than the base model 5-series, and that's a bit of a nono. As far as I can see, the 3-series is overhyped and not really interesting at all. Thoughts? Comments? Death threats? Respond with your own overrated car!

Yes but the Cadillac is made from used gum and wheelie bins. The BMW is not, that is enough for me. Build quality over the 30 odd extra horse power anyday.
Wouldn't be surprised if the caddy's chassis is less rigid than a moist towelette. The 3 series was BMW's breakthrough model, and it would be insanity to change the formula to anything other than rwd compact executive saloon. $30k is quite affordable for a premium German saloon in my eyes, especially considering that my A4 was $65k brand new in 1996, not adjusting for inflation. I'll mostly gloss over styling since it's all very subjective, but I will say that I do prefer the angular sharknose styling of the 80's beemers over the new cars, which arent catastrophically ugly.
Porsche 993 Audi B5 S4 Audi RS2 Lotus Esprit V8 TVR Chimaera Doge Viper GTS (wow) Holden Monaro Artega GT Ginetta F400 Aston Martin Virage (1991) Lotus Carlton/Omega Venturi Atlantique U wot m8. If anything, these cars are underrated.
It could be argued that you didnt, seeing as the bugatti can be classified as a hypercar, piece of turd, waste of money, micropenis meter, and all around bad idea.
Screw that noise. Considering the techincal feats this car pulled off, and how tons of people dismiss it as "generic supercar trash", the Veyron is actually hideously underrated. What other hypercar can still be your daily driver when you want to casually trundle along to the shops, then turn into an unchained beast when you take it to the track or the bahn?
I think that's because the McLaren F1 hit 240mph 13 years earlier without 4 turbos, 4 less cylinders, 373 less Horsepower, and almost 1800 (800kg) less pounds...
