Time for an update: Where, why, when, how, what happened to the project? I'm sure most of you are wondering why the year long hiatus and delay? Last July my Dad suddenly died. No build up, no prior knowledge; just a perfectly normal day into 4 days at the hospital hoping for him to wake up. As you can imagine, this put a tonne of new items onto my priority list with the Heaton Park Project being right at the bottom, or not even on it. For anyone that's had to be the person(s) dealing with a death, you'll understand the endless bureaucracy required to, confirm the death, register it, tell any and all acquaintances and friends, plan funerals, sort out inheritance and the estate. Phonecalls, online forms, sending letters, getting things signed off by officials. Everything that needs to be done before you can even have a moment to figure out how things will be now they're gone. My Dad wasn't old, he hadn't even made it halfway through his 60's, so to lose him so quickly was truly unexpected. All of this to say my Dad is the reason I know and love the park and by association, the entire reason I began this project to begin with. He would take us there on bike rides, walks, picnics; take nuts for the squirrels, seeds and bread for the ducks, carrots for the cows and horses. After all this, I've now moved home again and currently mid-renovation but I'm finding time for myself, finding time for my projects. Finding time for this map. The next update will be a small one, it'll add a memorial for my Dad, replacing the Papal monument that stands inside the park on the hill in the southern field. After that we'll get back to finishing up the building models for the park itself, get the walls sorted (which should bring improved performance and fidelity). Get things back on track. I'm sorry there's been very little going on but hopefully you can understand that this project, while immensely important to me, takes the lowest ranking on my priority list.
That's perfectly understandable, I'm sure everyone watching this project can wait quite a while longer, so take as long as you need. And personally, I agree with the idea of putting a memorial for your dad in the park that he made you so fond of, I think it would be rather fitting. Thank you for keeping us updated.
Sorry to hear that, Joe. Sounds like he was a great dad. I'm still bowled over by the progress you've made already with this. Such quality. As long as working on it is something you have time for and enjoy, keep going, but no pressure on timing from anyone, this is your project.
